The classroom was positively bland this afternoon. You're welcome for Derek's clear influence in that decision.
Okay, that was a lie. He probably couldn't have stopped it last week either. As though Derek ever had that much control over his own destiny, after all.
Still he was having at least some influence, as Pinkie was completely without additional props or costumes this week, just sitting quietly at the front of the classroom looking faintly concerned. She was even -- wonder of wonders -- looking to Derek to direct the class.
They didn't even have this problem in Equestria.
"If you've been around for more than the semester, you probably know something weird is happening. Because weird things always happen here." And they were usually terrible in an 'oh, I woke up naked in the park' way. "Whatever is happening this time doesn't seem to be one of those normal ones. Stay indoors and away from the gun machines."
Oh, the vending machines.
"Why do humans even have those?" Pinkie asked, though she didn't really expect an answer. "When ponies have problems, we use the magic of friendship. And pies."
Mind you, that magic could turn sentient beings into stone, so not exactly totally nicer than guns. It just played better for the censors.
Derek actually gave her a pat on the vague shoulder area for that one. Because that was how he expressed compassion. Via shoulder pat. FEEL HIS COMPASSION, PINKIE. AND CLASS.
Oh, Pinkie felt it, alright. You could tell by the bear hug she gave him in return.
You didn't really need those lungs, did you, Derek?

On the other hand, maybe having an apple pie to share would keep people calm? He could hope so, at least.
