The students met in a standard classroom today, and Jack had written a list on the whiteboard at the front.

"So this week, you get a break from the exercise 'cause all we're working is your brains," Jack began. "Most of this class has been about working together as a team. Teams have leaders, and today we're talking about what a leader should be like. The list's from an article. I found on what makes a good leader. Most of it explains itself. Communication means telling your team what's going on. Creativity means that if things get shitty in a new way, or if the way you normally fix things falls apart, you can figure out a whole new solution." She paused there to pass out the article, giving the students time to copy the list if they wanted. "So today I just want to talk. What was the best leader you ever knew like? Did they match the stuff on the list, or were there differences? Best leader I ever knew had all this shit down, except maybe sense of humor. She wasn't exactly a laugh riot. But getting shot at a lot does that to you. If all the leaders you've ever known have sucked, what off the list do you think is most and least important?"

"And my second question for you is, what would you need to change about yourselves to be a better leader? Saying you'd rather make out with a pyjak than be in charge isn't an answer."

How did the best leader you ever knew compare to this list? If all the leaders you've ever known have sucked, what off the list do you think is most and least important?

Gert took a moment to think about this before answering. "Well, the best leader I thought I knew had most of these, minus honesty and plus the fact that he was a traitor who wanted to sell us all out," she said frankly. "He was definitely intuitive, creative and confident, though. And probably a little too committed." And, yeah, she'd felt inspired by Alex on at least one occasion. Felt kind of stupid about it now, though.

"I like this list, though. Crappy people can definitely be talented leaders, and 'moral fiber' isn't anywhere on the list."

"It's a pretty good list and a lot of the leaders I've known can tick off a lot of the choices," Theo said after a moment. "Maybe not sense of humor but that could be a matter of perception, I guess."

"Well, I don't know about the positive attitude," Cade said, "but my grandfather had the last three with some to spare for everyone else."

"I need more confidence," Theo admitted with a shrug. "I wouldn't be able to inspire without that."

"My attitude isn't exactly positive," Gert was willing to admit, albeit in kind of a grumble.

Seemed fitting.

"I lie for a living," Surreal said, ticking that off on her fingers. "Mind you, that often works in my favor, as I'm quite good at getting people to follow me, but it's against your list. I am also not a 'positive' person, but it also means I won't feed you rainbow and sunshine bullshit."

Who totally have the leadership thing down, natch.

Jack leaned against the edge of the whiteboard with her arms crossed, interested in where the discussion might go.

So I watched the first two episodes of Sleepy Hollow last night and it is hitting all my fictional kinks so hard it's like they know me.

Abbie Mills needs to be my new fictional girlfriend like now.

OMG yes. I've only watched the first two episodes, but I love how the show's letting her be complex and snarky and heroic and all those things too few female characters in supernatural shows are.

Ichabod is not exactly hard on the eyes, either.

I've only seen the first two episodes too, but yeah, she really is! And with Ichabod as her partner, she's the vastly more competent one in her team, which is annoyingly rare for the women in opposite-gender badassery duos. So, lots of yay for her, basically.

And yes, Ichabod is also super hot.
