Modern American History- Monday- 2nd period

After a bit of an emotional roller coaster of a weekend, Kitty was back today and putting that behind her, at least for class. Which was a little bit easier because today they were on the moon. Because it was the Danger Shop, no one was going to need spacesuits. Unless they wanted them. If you want a spacesuit, just ask, kids.

"In case this setting isn't clue enough, welcome to the 60's," she began. "Which was a huge decade for change here. The 50's had been really conservative, and as the baby boomers started to grow up, things started moving away from that. The Stonewall riots marked the real start of the gay rights movement. Feminism was gaining traction, as was the civil rights movement. There were leaders for the movement in Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X. Malcom X was a little more... blunt, I guess. Well, he was a powerful guy who was sometimes accused of preaching racism and violence. King meanwhile became the leader of the civil rights movement, leading things like sit-ins and the Million Man March to make a point. Both men were assassinated, but the movement went on.

"Then there was a lot of super fun political stuff. There was the Cuban Missile Crisis, which happened because of the Cold War. The US put nuclear missiles in Turkey, aimed at Moscow, so the Soviets put some in Cuba aimed at us. This led to a huge standoff for thirteen days where we came very close to nuclear war, but ultimately they took their weapons away, and we took ours away, and so we're all still on the planet and let's be thankful for that. There was also the Vietnam War, where North Vietnam, which was communist, was trying to reunite with anti-communist South Vietnam. Because we were all-out terrified of communism, we sided with South Vietnam. It started out as a secret war at first, then escalated, with the war spilling over into nearby neutral countries and while South Vietnam's government turned into an unstable mess, they were thought of as a puppet country for the US. Meanwhile over here, there was some major opposition to our involvement in this, and there were protests, along with people burning their draft cards rather than going to war for something they didn't agree with. And that war went and carried over into the 70's, because sometimes things won't be nice and fit into just one decade for class purposes. And while we're talking about terrible things that happened in the 60's, President John F. Kennedy was assassinated in November of 1963 during a parade, in front of his wife. And then when his brother Robert Kennedy tried to run for president years later, he was assassinated, too.

"And I could end things on those nice, depressing notes, but instead, let's go with this: we won the space race!" Kitty said, holding her arms out to gesture at their surroundings. "For the rest of class, why don't you bounce around for the rest of the period."

Deny that you've wanted to do that since you got here.

The part of Theo that was influenced by Ange was nervous about this. But, the Dev part was overwhelming all of that which meant he was going to go bouncing happily around!

This was kind of the best class ever, and Billy was more than happy to bounce around and pretend he was an astronaut. Being able to fly wasn't like this!

What's that? Jessica could jump around at ridiculous heights without giving anything away? Sure! She could go for that.
