Student Council [Friday, Lunchtime]

Today's lunchtime feast was pizza and soda, with some salads to sort of balance the scale. There was also, of course, a small pile of leftover Halloween candy on the table, in case anyone hadn't gotten their fill yesterday.

"Well, Homecoming... was a thing that happened," Zoe said, coughing a little to try to cover up any errant snickering. "I think everything turned out well though, so you can pat yourselves on the back or whatever it is you do to congratulate yourselves. We have a bit of a break from events now, but if anyone can think of something we should be working on, now is the time to bring it up. Anyone?"

"Thanksgiving potluck in the dorms?" Topher suggested, looking up from where he'd been meticulously reorganizing the candy in the communal candy pile. "Maybe a no-terrible-chefs allowed kind of thing?"

"That would be great for any of the students who don't have somewhere to go," Evan piped up, a little softly. He was trying not to think too hard about facing a Thanksgiving where he knew he had no family to go home to, and was pretty much failing at it. "Will there be a turkey?"

"If someone brings one, I guess," Topher said, looking completely indifferent to the question. "Maybe from Alana's class. Turkey's probably hard to cook."

"It's not really all that hard," Evan replied, shrugging his shoulders a little. "I remember helping with the turkey every year. Mostly it's just a lot of work to put everything together, but not hard."

"So bring a turkey," Topher decided. That was easy enough.

"Um... I guess I could do that..."

It wasn't like Evan had anywhere else to be this year, or anything. Still, that was a lot of work (and a lot of money) for one kid.
genesishero: (A bit uncomfortable)

"Thank you so much," Evan murmured, ducking his head a little. "If you'd like some help with any of it, I'd be happy to lend a hand."

Way less intimidating than the idea of taking care of the turkey all on his own, yes.

"Ew," Evan replied, wrinkling his nose. "I've seen the stuff from the can. I don't trust the way it stays can-shaped after you dump it into the bowl. But I think I could probably get some actual cranberry sauce together. Cranberries should be pretty easy to find this time of year, I think?"

So much easier than a turkey!

"Or maybe Dr. Lecter's class could help with some of the cooking?" Alana suggested, and messed up Topher's categories by heedlessly swiping a few pieces of candy. "He's taught us to do, like, everything."

For ... certain definitions of 'everything,' anyhow.

"Can you make turkey?" Topher asked, nodding in Evan's direction. "More importantly, what about frozen chicken fingers?"
not_a_moonie: ([neg] suspicious)

Re: New Business

[personal profile] not_a_moonie 2013-11-01 05:30 pm (UTC)(link)
"Definitely chicken fingers," Alana said, with a little shrug. "Turkey looks complicated. Can we just buy one?"

Topher shrugged. "Probably," he decided. He knew very little about cooking, it should really be said. "That would mean it'd be fresher overall, wouldn't it? All professionally made and stuff?"

"Oo!" Cecil perked up. "What about the contest? Does the school have a separate one, or do we just join the city's?"

Because everybody had a Dead Citizens Impersonation Contest on Thanksgiving, didn't they?

Cecil frowned at him a little, confused. "The contest. The Dead Citizens Impersonation Contest. We do have one, right? That's one of the most important parts of Thanksgiving!"

If there wasn't one, he was going to be rather upset!

"I can't be sure, but I'm gonna say probably not," said Topher, looking beseechingly at his fellow Student Council representatives for help.

He didn't get out a whole lot, after all.

"Don't look at me," Alana put in. "I have no idea. I'm not one of you crazy people."

By which she meant humans in general.

"Traditional feast days?" Alana asked, since she'd picked up that much from context. "Sure. But we don't dress up for them or anything."

"Oh." Cecil smiled. "You should; it's really fun. And a great way to honor past citizens, too."
