Valentine's Day Dance. The Gym. 8.30 pm

The gym was decorated, the DJs were playing, and the punch was not yet spiked.

Fandom High's Valentine's Day Dance had begun.

"Thank you." Walter led her into a slow turn around the dance floor, going carefully on the assumption that she probably wasn't used to getting around in those shoes. "Have you been enjoying yourself tonight?"

Pippi is doing surprisingly well in the shoes considering that, a) nobody has ever seen her in anything but boots, and b) she might be one or more sheets to the wind.

She leans her head in Walter's shoulder.

"S'okay I guess."

"I dunno... I forget." she said, "But I'duv known 'im if I saw 'im."

Although she did require a second look dressed normally, too.

"And if you can't remember who he is, I don't think he's worth being glum over, right?"

"No reason." she said.

"You smell good. Not as good as..." she lifted her hand off his shoulder and waved it around. "...Whoever. But pretty good. When I left Vimmerby I thought I'd be miserable away from Papa and Tommy and Annika and Villa Villekulla. But you guys are so great. I love you guys."

Walter blinked, not that Pippi could see, but he did. It was the booze or whatever was in the punch that wasn't booze, if there was anything like that. And after the research Alfred had made him do, anything seemed possible to Walter.

"We love you, too, Pippi. You're a great friend." Global "we." No commitment. She probably wouldn't even remember in the morning.

Good thing she's not wearing make-up.

Walter grimaced. "My father. He was a research scientist for the Crown." Ah well, she probably wouldn't remember this tomorrow, either.

Walter looked up, relieved as the song drew to a close. "Thank you for the dance, Pippi. It wouldn't be a proper dance here if I didn't have one with you." He gave her a bow and a smile.

Pippi grinned a slightly lopsided grin and bobbed a curtsy.

"No, it wouldn't be would it?"

She walked with him back to the others, steady on her feet but listing slightly to port.

"Mebbe next time, I'll check the lable on the rum more careful..."
