Valentine's Day Dance. The Gym. 8.30 pm

The gym was decorated, the DJs were playing, and the punch was not yet spiked.

Fandom High's Valentine's Day Dance had begun.

"Thanks, I like the black," Rory replied, waving. "What've you guys been up to tonight?"

"We danced, mostly," Angela said. "I hung out with Peter Parker in the snark corner for a while. Oh, and they played a Ramones song, so Zero was happy."

Rory eyed the snark corner. "Yeah, probably best to steer clear of that area," she mused. "But yay dancing. Better or worse than Homecoming so far?" She grinned. "I mean, I haven't sat through the creepiest meal ever tonight, so I'm already leaning towards 'better.'"

Anakin smiled at Angela. "You look very nice," he said.

"Thanks! So do you," Angela said. "I think this is the first time since the pageant I've seen you in anything except the Jedi stuff. And the suit is much nicer than the tights."

Anakin yanked at his tie self-consciously. "I don't know," he said. "I think I look kinda like a tool. But thank you," he said, giving her a smile. "And it's definitely better than tights."

"Not hard to be," Angela said. "And I don't think you look like a tool. If that helps."

"Better," Angela said instantly. "No creepy dinner, sure, plus we aren't trying to look all 80's. This dress is way easier to move in."

"And I don't have black stuff all around my eyes, and no one's fighting," Rory said lightly. "Plus, yeah, I like this dress a lot more."

She fiddled with the neckline uncomfortably. "Okay, so what do you think - do we need cheerleaders here? Even though we have no sports teams? Because this was the major question at the DUCKLINGS meeting today."

"Yes," Anakin said. "Cheerleaders." He looked around. "I need Peter to back me up on this."

"Do you even know what cheerleaders are?" Rory asked, raising an eyebrow.

"Girls in skirts," Anakin responded promptly. "Is there something else I need to know about them?"

"They're the support at sporting events. Like, they cheer on the team. Hence the name." Rory pouted. "And yes, little bitty skirts. Whatever. They're also stereotypically very popular in high school and complete bitches to most people. Or so dictate most teen movies, and my own experience with them at my school before Chilton."

"But we don't have girls who would be like that here," Anakin said, frowning. "Or do those characteristics come out with the tiny skirts?"

"Well, I know that when I put on a tiny skirt, I don't become a more horrible person that usual," Rory acquiesced. She paused, listening, and grinned. "Oh, my God, we have to dance. Like, now. We have to. They're playing our favorite song (http://community.livejournal.com/fandomhigh/653795.html?thread=30817763#t30817763)." She turned huge, pleading eyes on him. "Please?"

"Cheerleaders? The girls in the short skirts jumping up and down? Are we getting some?" Marty says in a tone that doesn't sound too hopeful.

"No, but it was discussed," Rory said, rolling her eyes. "What would they cheer for?"

"They could keep our morale up the next time we're attacked by snow monsters," Marty suggested.

"They'd freeze!" Angela protested.

"The black stuff looked good," Angela said. "But, yeah, this is mellower all around. Nice."

She played with an earring, considering Rory's next question. "I always think people should just cheer to themselves. Like, privately," she said, ~~quoting canon yay~~. "But people never listen to me about that. So ... I guess if people want to be cheerleaders, we should let them? Though what will they cheer for -- "Yay, go, math test"?"

Rory grinned. "Okay, you just went way more thoughtful than any of us did. Mostly it was Peter going 'We need cheerleaders' and then once it was mentioned that they wear tiny skirts, someone else was on board," she jerked a thumb at Anakin, "and then it was me and Nadia arguing in favor of things like boys' water polo. Because mm, speedos."

Angela snorted. "Guys. Okay, I'm definitely a fan of pretty people in not many clothes, I'm just not sure why pom-poms have to come into it."

"Have they finished disinfecting the pool yet?"

Rory wrinkled her nose. "I forgot there were like, naked people in it, or something. Ew. I have no idea if they've finished, but I think it's kind of ruined for me forever."

"I would want to know that they, like, boiled the water and replaced all the tile," Angela said. "It's weird, I don't think the idea of skinny dipping is gross, but something about the thought of swimming in a pool where people did it..." she shuddered.

"It's icky," Rory agreed. "Like sleeping in a bed where someone had sex, or something."
