The gym was decorated, the DJs were playing, and the punch was not yet spiked.

Fandom High's Valentine's Day Dance had begun.

"We have to ask him sometime. See if we can get him to just rant for a class period," Angela suggested. "I mean, it's still kind of on-topic, right?"

"They're trying to form a government. The US government is heavily involved in that. Yeah, that's still on-topic," Peter answered. "And I doubt it would be tough to get him started on it. That's just a gut feeling, mind you."

"My gut agrees with your gut," Angela laughed. "He definitely know his stuff, and it sounds like he really hates the president in this world."

She tilted her head to one side. "Are you from a place with Bush? We're still on Clinton back home, so ... there's hope."

"My President is poorly defined due to the fact that time progresses much slower in comics, but he usually vaguely resembles Bush. We're on Bush, unfortunately. One time a bunch of bad guys kidnapped me and were going to force me to try to kill him. They were stopped, fortunately." Peter cleared his throat. "That's my story of how I almost met the President."

Even though people knew his secrets here, it was probably best not to mention most of his stories.

"Were they going to brainwash you into it, or something?" Angela said, vaguely impressed but also uneasy. "And I do not have a story like that. Which is probably a good thing, really."

She gestures to the dance floor, hoping for a change of subject. "Do you dance at all?"

"Blackmailed. Threats to my family. And, hey, let's save the rest of this story for another time, why don't we?" Peter said with a lot of mock-enthusiasm.

"I have danced in the past. Not well, though. Several people were taken to the hospital. I didn't hit them or anything, the dancing was just that bad. So I try to avoid it whenever possible. And most of that was a joke."

Angela caught his tone and nodded. "Sure. Tell me enough and we can give it to Chloe for the paper," she said with mock-solemenity. "Or, you know, not."

She rubbed her forehead thoughtfully.

"I was going to suggest we could dance, but not if it'll cause the whole gym to look like a casualty ward."

"Yeah, I'd prefer the not," Peter said with a grin.

"It would probably be for the best if I just stood here and looked nice in my suit. It saves injury and embarrassment for everyone."

"Works for me, on both things," Angela said. "You don't want your tie to .... I don't know, be angered by being forced to dance and start attacking people, or anything."

"I'm pretty sure my tie isn't alive. Thankfully." Peter had dealt with living clothes before. It hadn't gone well. "But better safe than sorry."

"Peter!" Parker grinned at Angela. "Hi. Stealing the guy you're talking to. That okay?" Turning back to Peter, she said, "Come on, dance with me!"

"Whoa, hey, wait," Peter protested profusely. "My refusal to dance spares people injuries."

"Spare me," Parker snorted. "Remember who you're talking to, Petey-boy. Come on! Sinead demands we dance!"

She grabbed his arm and dragged him to the dance floor, smirking.

"I have no chance of winning this that doesn't involve my powers, do I? Crap." As he was dragged off (stupid shoes, keeping him from sticking to the floor), he waved to Angela and said, "I'll talk to you later!"

"Hey, Parker. Steal away."
