Valentine's Day Dance. The Gym. 8.30 pm

The gym was decorated, the DJs were playing, and the punch was not yet spiked.

Fandom High's Valentine's Day Dance had begun.

Isabel frowned, "This conversation is borderline serious. That's not good you realize. So here, random silliness, I once played an onion in a school play."

Isabel nodded solemnly. "An onion. It was my first year in school, just a few months after Max and I had been adopted. I was still in my shy phase and wouldn't talk much. So I was the onion. All I had to do was stand around with the other vegetables. I think the celery made the big speech. How about you," she asked. "ever have to do anything similar?"

"Thankfully, no. And if I did, I'm not telling anyone," Peter said. "But it does sound adorable."

Isabel rolled her eyes. "The picture is still on the wall in my dad's study because he thinks it's adorable. I've considered burning it."

She looked around the crowd, which was mostly in the corner. "Well it looks like the dance is a success."

"So I guess our side wins? Victory to the single people?" Peter asked. "Go us!"

"I'm starting to think the single people out number the happy couples. We might win just by simple majority." Isabel laughed. "So yeah, Yay us!"

"We deserve a trophy," Peter said, nodding. "Granted, that would mean trading off constantly to make sure everyone got some time with it, but still."

"Like the sports teams do with their trophies? I always wonder if there's a list in the locker room and everyone signs up for times and if they fight over who gets to take it out to the bars with them."
