The gym was decorated, the DJs were playing, and the punch was not yet spiked.

Fandom High's Valentine's Day Dance had begun.

Susan came in and was very, very amused by the artwork. Glancing around, she found Josh, and joined him.

"Hi. You must be new here," Mac said offering his hand. "I'm MacGyver. I teach shop class."

"Susan Pevensie, school counselor." Susan's smile widened as she shook his hand. "A pleasure to meet you. Did any of your students help with the, um, artwork?"

"Not entirely sure," Mac said looking around at the decorations. "Most of my kids seem more obsessed with eating snack cakes and blowing up things than making decorations."

Susan laughed. "Well, perhaps they'll blow up the punch bowl, then?" She shook her head. "I'm just amused at the bloodthirsty theme around the edges."

"I think the kids were working out some of their Valentine's day issues," Mac suggested. "For the valentine's assignment I gave the kids, most of them ended up in some form of destruction."

"And they better not blow up the punch bowl, I haven't had a chance to get anything to drink yet."

"It isn't spiked. Yet." Susan's lips twitched. "I should be more worried about that, but somehow I just can't manage it. I haven't seen any incipient alcoholism yet, and so, after snow monsters and vampires, I'm rather sanguine about underage drinking."

"From what I've seen the kids around here are pretty responsible. The once who did get caught drinking last term were stuck in a Christmas Pageant," Mac says with a chuckle. "Somehow I doubt that will be an issue again."

"So tell me Susan, what brought you to Fandom?"

"Ohhh." Susan considered her usual story for a moment, then shrugged, her trip back to England too fresh to lie about. "My last boss was a manipulative prick. And this was the first offer I received after I realized I wanted to quit. It tells you how much I disliked him that I don't mind the snow monsters as much." Her lips twitched. "You?"

Mac laughed at the snow monster comment. "I actually used to be a student here, but dropped out to take care of my grandfather. I ended up coming back here as you see me now after I left my job in the government as a... troubleshooter."

"Troubleshooter?" Susan tilted her head. "Did that involve parachuting into jungles, or talking to people wanting to sue the government? And when were you a student here?"

[identity profile] manofthemullet.livejournal.com 2006-02-18 05:32 am (UTC)(link)
"More of the parachute kind of thing," Mac said with a grin. "And the whole school thing is a little weird. I left school to take care of my grandfather. Lived my entire life up until I left the agency and then came back here to teach. Only thing? Only a couple of weeks had past since I left here."

Mac took a sip of some punch. "Which I know sounds crazy, but apparently I'm not the only one this thing has happened to. Time warp wise."

"A month ago I was living in 1962. I don't think there's *anything* crazy enough about time warps that can surprise me." Susan shook her head. "Although coming back a week after you left has to rank up there as one of the stranger ones." She cocked her head. "Can we go into the future from here, if we're not from there? I think I'd like a vacation in 2499."

"I'm pretty sure I've had some kids from the future in my class, so I don't see why not," Mac said thoughfully. "1962? I take it you've had a bit of a culture shock."

"You could say that. Elvis gone, Kennedy dead, computers and phones that can take pictures, and oh yes, the general increase in speed in everything!" Susan laughed. "And yet I think I'm getting used to it. Possibly even addicted. I don't think I *want* to go back now."

"Yeah, I left sometime in the mid nineties and I'm amazed at the technology jump since then. You should see the hologram emitters we have in the Shop classroom."

"Perhaps, if I can stop by sometime during class? I'd love to see it."
