Science You Cannot Possibly Comprehend, Monday, Period 5

"You have had a full day to reacclimate to your light school week, so you should be able to get right into work," Doom said, the second class started. "Before break, you were instructed to program robots to do certain basic tasks. Now you will refer to your robots' logs, as well as the half-melted husks of any robots that made nuisances of themselves."

"Now!" Time to get to work, everyone!

Cecil had opted for the simpler choice of just using his brainwaves; he wasn't exactly a programmer. He'd still had to call Carlos once or twice during the week for help in figuring out how the silly thing thought.

Of course, he'd still been a bit out of sorts after the weekend, and talking to Carlos hadn't exactly helped. He'd ended up with a perfectly functional and somewhat depressed robot.

It saluted by raising its hand and howling, as was proper in Night Vale. It moved the box, but sighed the whole time. It picked the name Dierdre. It shook hands as limply as a metal creature could manage. And it gave up halfway through the multiplication tables, threw up its hands, declared, "What's the point, anyway?", sat on the box and moped for the rest of the week.

Victor was glad for this class today; he still needed distractions from the week's events back in L.A., and whatever else Doom was, he was certainly distracting.

He turned on the terminal and started putting the robot through its paces. Not that he was too worried about it hitting its benchmarks; he knew he and Topher had done a good job.

Apparently Karolina and Jim's robot had not malfunctioned! That was a relief, not that she had expected things to go awry. At least in any drastic way.

Although why it had decided its name was Jacques Töppönen was anyone's guess. That had been some minor glitch somewhere in the programming, but it appeared to be the only one.

... And was probably the result of Karolina accidentally leaning on something during the programming process.
