Journalism 101/201 (Friday, February 17 - 7th period)

"Boys and girls, a simple day today. I would like you to get into groups that I will assign, and tell each other about your best friend at this school. Who are you closest to? Why? What drew you to them?"

Rita smiled. "And let's consider 'friend' to be a very loose term, since I've seen you all have a penchant for doing that. Oh, and Ms. Morgendorffer, Ms. Tyler? Your cameras, please."

Anakin looked at Quinn and Peter. "Um. Someone else want to go first?" He shot a glance at Professor Skeeter. "Please?"

"Sure, I'll go first." Peter thought about who his best friend here would probably be. "I think I have to go with Isabel Evans. We kind of randomly teamed up for the Student Council elections, started talking, and found out that we have a lot in common."

Anakin nodded and looked over at Professor Skeeter. "I'm betting we're supposed to ask things like what do you have in common, huh?"

"Wouldn't be a bad idea, Mr. Skywalker. You need to be very informed," Rita said, browsing through one of her drawers.

Anakin tried not to sigh too audibly. "So, Peter, what do you and Isabel have in common?"

Obviously the most honest answer about hiding abilities and having a lot of responsibility wouldn't exactly work. "We were brought up by similar kinds of people. Decent people, raised us with good senses of responsibility. And we both work kind of obsessively - see last week's StuCo game night for that."

It was kind of a lame answer, yes, but it worked.

Anakin smiled. "I'm drawn to beings with a similiar work ethic to that myself."

He rolled his eyes and shot a dirty look at Professor Skeeter. "I know this doesn't come as a huge shock to you, but my closest friend at this school is Rory Gilmore."

Anakin fought very hard not to smile doofily. It was mostly successful. "We don't exactly have similiar backgrounds, but we're both pretty driven people."

Quinn's kinda listening, and when everyone else stops talking, she goes into a ramble.

"I don't really have a best friend at this school, because the people here are, let's face it, sooooo weird, and they don't really make any sense and so I hid in my dorm room for a semester because I didn't want to deal with, but Cordelia Chase is my roommate and she's really awesome. She's from California and understands the big deal about shoes and stuff and she's really cool that way. Even if she dated that Xander guy. Big whatever there. I don't talk to her as much as I should, though. Huh."

She goes back to filing her nails.

Anakin, who owned exactly two pairs of shoes, asked the stupid obvious question. "What is the big deal with shoes?"

"They're cute and complete the outfit," Quinn says simply, and wonders if Anakin is gay after all.

Anakin wrinkled his forehead. "Huh." He shrugged. "Cordy is a lot of fun," he said. "You should definitely spend more time with her."

He paused. "You think the rest of us are weird?"

"Well, we don't exactly have aliens where I come from," she says. "We thought we did for a little while. But it was a false alarm."

Anakin nodded. "Rory said the same thing, about not knowing about aliens before she came here." He smiled. "I've known about beings on other worlds since I was old enough to remember anything."

He looked down at the notes he had been writing. "False alarm?" he asked.

"Good to know," Anakin said, trying to hide a smile. "So. Cordy. Other than your understanding of shoes, and lack of being aliens as evidenced by your wardrobe what makes you think you'd get along?"
