Journalism 101/201 (Friday, February 17 - 7th period)

"Boys and girls, a simple day today. I would like you to get into groups that I will assign, and tell each other about your best friend at this school. Who are you closest to? Why? What drew you to them?"

Rita smiled. "And let's consider 'friend' to be a very loose term, since I've seen you all have a penchant for doing that. Oh, and Ms. Morgendorffer, Ms. Tyler? Your cameras, please."

"Initially, he reminded me of a good friend. Jarod is like a little kid, full of wonder about things. It's an attractive quality."

"That sounds cool." he says, writing what Rose said down.

"What about you?" asks Rose, twirling a pencil.

"Um, well. My best friend is pretty much my girlfriend Lily." he says. "Before it was Jonathan Crane but he left the school earlier."

"Right," says Rose, scribbling down some notes. "Why Lily?"

"Well because she's funny and she puts up with all my crap." he says smiling

Rose gives him an answering smile and writes down his answer. "How did you meet?"

Quinn signs in.

Quinn turns in her camera. "I took a picture of myself," she says simply.

Quinn's kinda listening, and when everyone else stops talking, she goes into a ramble.

"I don't really have a best friend at this school, because the people here are, let's face it, sooooo weird, and they don't really make any sense and so I hid in my dorm room for a semester because I didn't want to deal with, but Cordelia Chase is my roommate and she's really awesome. She's from California and understands the big deal about shoes and stuff and she's really cool that way. Even if she dated that Xander guy. Big whatever there. I don't talk to her as much as I should, though. Huh."

She goes back to filing her nails.

Anakin, who owned exactly two pairs of shoes, asked the ~~stupid~~ obvious question. "What is the big deal with shoes?"

"They're cute and complete the outfit," Quinn says simply, and wonders if Anakin is gay after all.

Anakin wrinkled his forehead. "Huh." He shrugged. "Cordy is a lot of fun," he said. "You should definitely spend more time with her."

He paused. "You think the rest of us are weird?"

"Well, we don't exactly have aliens where I come from," she says. "We thought we did for a little while. But it was a false alarm."

Anakin nodded. "Rory said the same thing, about not knowing about aliens before she came here." He smiled. "I've known about beings on other worlds since I was old enough to remember anything."

He looked down at the notes he had been writing. "False alarm?" he asked.

"I wore a lot of black. People got the wrong idea." She does not look at Anakin's wardrobe.

"Wearing black would make you an alien?" Anakin blinked. "Has someone mentioned this to Hamlet and Angel?"

"It doesn't make you an alien, but it arouses suspicion," she says.

"Good to know," Anakin said, trying to hide a smile. "So. Cordy. Other than your understanding of shoes, and lack of being aliens as evidenced by your wardrobe what makes you think you'd get along?"

"You need more than that?" says Quinn, who really has based all her friendships on those very things.

"I suppose you've got a point," Anakin said.

"It works for me," she nods.

"I wonder why she wants us to talk about this kind of stuff," Anakin said, tilting his head at Professor Skeeter.

Quinn writes something on a piece of paper and slides it over just long enough for Anakin to see.

Maybe her husband cheated with her skanky best friend, woe!

After all, she likes Professor Skeeter. Damn men.

Anakin glanced at the paper.

That would be terrible, he scrawled. Not that I'll ever know, of course, since Jedi aren't allowed to date.
