"I asked first," Methos shot back. "Signed up for the trial yet? Cameron Mitchell didn't come to class, so I stuck him with being the plaintiff, since everyone else seemed to be avoiding the limelight."

"I have done, yes. I signed up for the jury," Elizabeth replied. "I'd have chosen the judge had that not been your position."

"Well, remember that the jury has a function similar to a modern day judge. They don't decide the case, but they make rulings on what kind of evidence is allowable and the like. And since there are no lawyers per se, they also question witnesses."

Methos turns to Janet. "Since I had such a clever interactive idea for the medieval class... any ideas for something like for the civ class? I think people would be more interested in something participatory than just listening to me drone on all the time."

"Participation?" asked Janet. I just logged back on after many hours away from the computer. She grinned. "Are we allowed to have that in Western Civ? How about we plan a Roman feast for one of the class periods?"
