Fall 2013 Club Fair, Gym, Friday Afternoon

Jackson had entirely forgotten about the club thing over the summer. So, yeah, there wasn't going to be any organized lacrosse this fall. Probably for the best since they seemed to have like half of Beacon Hills' team going here now from various world's and it could have gotten messy.

And Jackson also kind of stumbled upon the club fair by accident. But since he was here, he grabbed a copy of the schedule and decided to at least give a cursory glance to what was on offer this time around. Even if he probably wasn't going to sign up for anything. There were better ways of celebrating having managed almost an entire full moon under control. But still.

Club fair.

So...when Zeela and Zhahar had both agreed to do clubs, they hadn't thought about the Club Fair signups. Specifically, how they were both going to be in their booths at the same time. Or how to go between one booth and the other without being too obvious about it.

Which was why Zee was here now, slightly out of breath, helmet askew and looking ready to answer any question!

...Unless she spotted someone at her sister's table, of course!

Ah! Someone behind the roller derby table! Raven had been hoping to catch someone, here.

"Hi," she greeted as she came up. "So I have to ask: what is roller derby? Because I've kind of got an image of horses on roller skates, and even around here, that seems a little off."

[ooc: wacky identity antics are totes welcome. Raven might even sympathize.]

"...Can I change it to that instead?" Zee asked, grinning. "Because that would be awesome."

She didn't know where Raven was getting that idea from and she didn't care. Horse racing on roller skates was probably the most hilarious thing she'd imagined in awhile.

"But, no, there aren't any horses involved. Roller derby's kind of like competitive skating, only with a lot more pushing and fighting!"

...Look, that was what Zeela had gotten out of the match she'd watched.

"You have two teams and they have a designated scorer, who earns points by doing laps. Everyone else on the team's job is to either protect your scorer or screw up the other team's scorer!"

Well. Raven supposed she'd heard of stranger sports. Maybe.

"So you're trying to beat up the other team's scorer?"

"You're not actually allowed to hit them," Zeela said, looking a little disappointed. "Like, there are rules about how you can impede other teams and stuff, but it's mostly trying to knock them out of bounds and stuff."

Yeah, Raven wasn't really following at all. "And you do all this on roller skates."

This must have been a Depression thing, somehow. Those thirties kids had to make their own fun.

And what was it about knocking people down on roller skates that did not sound fun to you, Raven? You get to bash humans around while moving!

THINK OF HOW THIS COULD INFLUENCE YOUR FUTURE CAREER!

"And you get to make up cool names and personas and stuff. Most of them are puns and jokes and stuff and you get to wear costumes. Because nothing says awesome like tackling someone while wearing a tutu."

Different personas, eh? If Raven had shaped her ears like those that could perk up, they'd be perked. Still. . . .

"Is this a circus thing?"

Come on now, tutus.

"No...? But if you wanted to dress up like a clown, I...nah, I'd probably judge you."

Because she hadn't been on Earth for very long, but she still knew that that clowns were creepy.

Raven was absolutely not getting this at all. But it did sound kind of neat. "Can I do this and cheerleading, do you think?"

"Sure," Zee shrugged. "We only need five people for a team, so we can make sure our practices don't interfere with theirs."

There might be a problem if the cheerleaders wanted to cheer for the derby kids, but that was Raven's deal to figure out, not Zeela's.

"Well, I guess it's worth a shot, then," Raven decided. "I'm Raven, by the way. I'm not sure if we've met."

"I kn--err, Raven, huh? Nice to meet you. I'm Zee."

Zeela belatedly remembered that she knew Raven only from classes the girl had shared with her sisters. "I think I've seen you around campus and stuff."

TOTALLY SMOOTH COVER-UP, ZEE. TOTALLY.

Well, it must get a little tough to keep track of, after awhile.

"Nice to meet you, Zee," she said with a smile. "Have you had a lot of people sign up, so far?"

It did!

Zeela checked her list. Bouncing between both tables meant that she couldn't give an accurate accounting of either. "Oooh, you'd be the fifth!" she said. "Which is the minimum needed to play."

So, you know, no pressure or anything...

"Oh, well, now I have to sign up. You won't hate me if I decide it's not for me once I actually see it, will you?"

"No hard feelings," Zee promised. "...Especially if you get someone to take your spot."

Just sayin'

"Sounds fair enough to me," Raven said, and she pulled out a pen.
