Teamwork, Monday, Period 2

The teamwork classroom was mostly bare today, with bins of Legos scattered throughout the space. Jack faced the class with her arms folded. Being a guy for the weekend had left her pissed off as all hell; she'd try not to take it out on the students, but it was an open question whether she'd succeed.

"Sometimes, your team has some crappy job to do that everybody needs to help with," she began. "Doesn't matter if it's not really your job, or if you feel like the whole thing is dumb. If you want the job to be done this year, everybody has to chip in without wasting time whining."

She hit a button on her datapad and projected an image onto the wall. "Today, your crappy little job is building a scale model of a spaceship out of Legos. There are six of you and you have an hour and the blueprints. Figure out who should do what, go to work, and if you're efficient you should get pretty far by the end of class."

Theo didn't think he had to worry about killing anyone else but the blueprints were definitely going to give him a headache. He was studying them and reaching for Legos as he did.

Okay, Isaac had no leadership abilities whatsoever. So he was just going to pretend to look serious business with legos until someone told him what to do.

"I'm getting serious maturity whiplash from this class," Gert noted as she plopped down next to Isaac. "Want a partner?"

Surreal had never seen Legos before, so it took a few moments as she poked at them with a confused face, looking back and forth between the pile of blocks and the image on the wall.

"These turn into that?"

"Well, I mean--" Isaac looked around at everybody else. "Isn't the point for all six of us to build this thing together?"

AKA somebody just tell him what to do and he'd shut up and do it.

"It's never going to karking fly," Cade pointed out with a frown. "Think we could scare the other ones into working faster? Call ourselves management."

"I can make it fly if we have to," Surreal replied, making a face. "...I'd rather be management.

"Yelling at people is way more fun," Cade agreed.

Cade was there, self-appointed management.

Apparently he missed the part about being helpful.

Really, there was only one answer to that.

Surreal walked up into the air as if she was using stairs, stopping about three feet up and putting two fingers in her mouth to issue an ear-splitting loud whistle. "Enough playing with yourselves," she hollered, her face utterly deadpan. "I want three teams: wings, rear-end, and we'll all work on that weird nose-part. Scruffy here is with me sorting these things by size--" a very arduous task, really, "--for you to use. Break yourselves up to work or I'll start assigning teams."

Don't let Surreal assign teams, people. Otherwise she's going to put you with people you obviously hate, just to slow down the process and annoy the teacher.

"I guess, but--" he'd kind of looked like he needed some guidance on this project-- "sitting around and doing this assembly-line-style sounds like it's gonna suck."

She shrugged. "So my questions would be, A, do you have any Lego experience, and B, do you think the wings would be easy to kind of tackle?"
