Cultural Exploration [Friday, 2nd Period]

Clint had triple checked that everything was set at the Portalocity office in town for this class - call it first day nervousness, call it a desire to not get fired for losing students via portals, but either way Clint was ready to go by the time everyone arrived.

"Hey guys," he said, giving everyone his most easygoing smile. "Welcome to Cultural Exploration. I hope you're all in the right place, and if you're not, you're welcome to come along for the ride anyway. I'm Clint Barton, and you can call me Mr. Barton if you want to, but it's also cool if you don't want to be that formal or whatever. Today, we're going to start off by visiting Paris, France. I have some places I want you to check out, and we'll get to all the introduction stuff at the end."

He was pretty sure there was a rule against not having introduction time somewhere in the school handbook, but finding out for certain would involve reading it, and that just wasn't happening.

Like it's finally Friday!

The class' first stop was at La Fontaine de Mars where the students could enjoy anything on the menu that wasn't alcoholic.

Seriously, Clint likes this job, please don't get him fired on the first day of the semester.

Next, the class headed for the Eiffel Tower to be truly stereotypical tourists. Once everyone had gotten their fill of the outside view, the lift would take everyone up to the second floor observation level for an inside look. Or you could climb 600 stairs and work off your food, if you were so inclined.

Once everyone was inside the tower, Clint gathered them all up. "Okay, introduction time. Give us all your name, your grade, and one place you'd like to go this semester, if you've thought about that and are familiar with places on Earth."

He'd be stuffing his face with duck and enjoying the heights when no one needed him.

Alec Lightwood

Alec found a table a little ways away from most of the rest of the group and ordered a salad, proving himself to be an exceedingly boring person. He seemed content with his choices, though.

Alec could say that his choice to take the stairs had to do with working off his lunch, but that would be a lie. He just wasn't keen on squeezing into a crowded lift with his peers. Even taking the stairs, he was able to make it up to the second floor in no time at all before promptly rejoining the group, because enjoying the view was a mundie thing, apparently.

"I'm Alec Lightwood, I'm in my last year here, and I guess I'd like to see Rome," Alec reported.

Jim Kirk

There were some interesting things on the menu. The calf's head salad caught his eye and he almost ordered it just to see if a calf's head would show up but he refrained.

Instead, he went with some french fries. Those were safe and he didn't want to end up with a stomachache because he'd eaten something that disagreed with his stomach.

The view wasn't too bad, Jim had to admit. He hadn't been here in his time and probably wouldn't ever get here ever again so he took a moment to memorize the sight.

"Jim Kirk and I'm a senior." As for the last question, he shrugged. "Somewhere with a good beach, I guess."

Maddie Berry

Maddie loved this class pretty much immediately. She knew "plat du jour" had to mean "plate of the day," which sounded pretty safe, even if she didn't know what quennelles in seafood coulis was. She'd figure it out, right?

Everything was going on Instagram.

Maddie was 100% that person who had this lifelong dream to go to Paris even though she had a whole world to choose from, so she was just going to enjoy herself way too much up here. Could they stay? It'd be dumb to ask but could she do it anyway?

"I'm Maddie Berry, I'm a senior," she said, "and I'd really love to go somewhere in Italy. I don't even care where."

It went along with the Paris thing to her.

Rilla Blythe

Oh, how Walter would thrill to see Paris! Rilla looked around with wide, avid eyes, trying to remember everything so she could write about it to him and Ken.

This was such a hopeful sign after nothing but bad news from France in her time. No one here was speaking German or shelling churches.

She ordered a floating island and a cup of tea and was more than happy to people watch for a while. The women here were all so fashionable. It made her feel quite frumpy.

"Can we stay here forever?" Rilla asked, sighing happily.

"I'm Rilla Blythe," Rilla said, praying not to lisp, "I'm a senior--" thank you, God, "--and I'd love to thee the exotic Orient."

No one called it that now, Rilla.

Sholeh Zeela a Zhahar

"I say yes. The teacher-" Shhh, she didn't know what to call him when she was used to 'Hawkeye'. "-might not agree..."

"But it's Paris," Rilla sighed. "Surely he'd be understanding."
