Ethics [Tuesday, September 3, 2013]

Anakin, working on his new goal of being less of a dick in the classroom that Dr. Doom (admittedly, not that high a bar to clear), swept into the room with his cloak swirling behind him.

Because Anakin would always be a bit of a drama llama.

"This is Ethics class," he began, glancing around the room and memorizing faces. "I'm Anakin Skywalker. In addition to being your teacher, I'm also the dean of students so if you have any questions or problems that are more substantial than 'my roommate snores' or 'I was forced to wear flowers against my will on Saturday', I'm here to listen. My office hours are on Thursdays." He leaned a little awkwardly against his desk positioned up at the front of the classroom. Relaxing was never going to be something he was all that comfortable with. "Ethics is a tricky subject because ethics are so individually calibrated. What I might do without stopping to wonder about might be a punishable offense on a world one of you hails from. Because of that, this class is very discussion and activity based. My job, as I see it, is to prepare you to face your own world again after you've left Fandom, not to calibrate your moral compass to better reflect mine."

Because the Force knew Mr. "Sure, I'll Kill Younglings" was hardly the most reliable person to be judged against.

"That means that I welcome discussion, but not arguments that devolve into 'your world is stupid' or something equally inane. I have absolutely no problem coming up with busy work for you to do on a Saturday." After making sure each student was absorbing that to his satisfaction, he nodded. "All right. Today we start with an exercise called 'two truths and a lie.' You provide three facts about you, but only two of them are correct. It's up to your classmates to decide which one is the lie. If you are uncomfortable with lying, you can provide an example that's clearly incorrect. If you choose to give us examples that are all lies, well, that's your choice, though I would wonder about your ability to follow directions."

He cleared his throat and centered himself in the Force, just in case any of the students could read minds or intentions in order to figure out which of his three facts was a lie. "I'll begin. I'm a grandfather, I've spent almost five years on this island, and you can find action figure collectibles of me in my home galaxy."

Emma was perfectly capable of following directions, that didn't mean she was going to.

"I was born in Maine, I'm nearly sixteen, and I'm a fussy eater." Less two truths and a lie than two lies and one thing she was reasonably sure was true.

There weren't too many people here (or anywhere, for that matter) who knew a lot about Flick. The ones that knew him were either in New York or dead. So, this should be pretty easy to do.

"I can take down guys three times my size, I'm the most optimistic guy in the room, and I go to school on an island with a castle on it."

Okay, maybe those were easy and a little bit sarcastic but Flick wasn't one to give things away about himself during a class exercise. He'd followed the directions!

"Really?" Riley feigned complete shock that Anakin would think that. "What makes you say that? I don't look the part?"

Not even a little, Flick.

"Not really," Emma agreed. "Unless 'edible's considered a high bar."

"The action figures are a lie," Flick decided since babies were having babies so he could be a grandfather and he just guessed the second was truthful.

"There's no way you're a fussy eater," Flick said because he'd seen her at the picnic and in a common room once before. "Beggars can't be choosers."

"Let's see. I'm one of the best bounty hunters on my planet, I've never been on another planet before coming to Earth, and I can build a flash grenade in under a minute as long as I have the materials," Mira rattled off.

As far as Mira was concerned, there wasn't much difference between class participation and advertising.

"Do you get any profit from them using your likeness?" Flick could deal with action figures of himself if he was making money off of it.
shippedtomaine: (Welp that's taken care of.)

"Well, I can tell you're full of optimism," Emma said, with just a touch of sarcasm. Okay, more than a touch.
shippedtomaine: (Nope. No idea what you mean.)

"Yeah, you got me," Emma said. "I need to think of a better lie."
