Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

There were plenty of tables and chairs scattered around the lawn for anyone who wanted to sit down once they'd had their fill of the buffet, or to recover from starting to find out what this place was all about. No one would judge the need to take a mental breather.

Seriously Fandom, wtf flower crowns?

Some of the tables were out in the open, for those who weren't allergic to the sun, and some of the tables were in the shade, or far from the rest of the crowd for those who needed a little more space to process. Wherever people decided to rest, there was space enough for everyone.

[OOC: This is part two of the picnic, separated in an effort to save our browsers for as long as possible. Part one, to run into siblings, roommates and teachers, is over here, though teachers are also welcome in this post, of course. Because the picnic is outside, it is open to all students, teachers and townies!]

It was the stupidest thing ever.

Liara gave her an expectant look. Because she foolishly expected that wasn't the whole story.

"And... that's about it."

It had been a really fragile ceasefire.

"A fight broke out, and before we knew it, everyone was back to full-on war. We barely made it out from the system."

Liara had to bite down on her bottom lip to keep the second I'm sorry from slipping out.

"Ah," she said. "That is an enormous shame. They must have been very intent on this war."

"I guess so." And Karolina's feelings about it were mixed, at best. "We don't if anyone else made it away. And we crashed the escape pod in LA, so we don't have any way of finding out, either. Xavin's staying with... everyone else, now."

Well. Not everyone.

"So," Liara said. Awkwardly. Well. This whole thing had been terribly awkward, so that was... par for the course. "You are here to visit?"

Karolina looked a little bit surprised at that question.

"Visit? Um, no. No, I'm here to... go to school. Again."

"Then you are really coming back," Liara said, hating the fact that her voice broke a little in the middle and revealed how relieved-- no, glad-- no, hopeful-- no... something...

Karolina hazarded the first small smile of the conversation. "Yeah. I am."

"Good," Liara said quietly. "I am pleased-- no, that sounds wrong. That makes me happy."

And she took a slightly awkward step closer. For a hug or something, maybe, in a moment.

Liara stepped forward as well, reaching out and tugging Karolina into that hug preemptively. Awkwardly, yes. But wholeheartedly.

Karolina responded in kind although sans Majesdaneing out. She hugged Liara pretty tightly, actually.

There had been some missing happening over the summer.

Liara let out a sigh of sheer relief, dropping her head on Karolina's shoulder. "I missed you," she said softly.

"I missed you too," Karolina told her quietly. "A lot."

And this hug was making her feel more confident that coming back had been an okay choice.

Perhaps it was fortuitous for Karolina that Liara was an asari - they had different notions about loss than humans did. Despite all the mess about marriages and not being entirely sure where they stood now, Liara was stupidly pleased that she was here again.

"Please don't do that again," she said softly. "We should-- talk. Some other time. Goddess, right now I am so glad you are back--"

"I already promised Jim I'm not doing that again. And now I'm promising you." So, maybe that made it likely that she wasn't running off again like that. She didn't want to. "We can talk whenever."

She went to give Liara a quick kiss on the cheek. Just the lightest touch and nothing more.

Karolina gave her another squeeze, then stepped back, pushing her hair behind her ear just a little bit awkwardly.

"I guess I should go see whether I still have my old room."
