Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

There were plenty of tables and chairs scattered around the lawn for anyone who wanted to sit down once they'd had their fill of the buffet, or to recover from starting to find out what this place was all about. No one would judge the need to take a mental breather.

Seriously Fandom, wtf flower crowns?

Some of the tables were out in the open, for those who weren't allergic to the sun, and some of the tables were in the shade, or far from the rest of the crowd for those who needed a little more space to process. Wherever people decided to rest, there was space enough for everyone.

[OOC: This is part two of the picnic, separated in an effort to save our browsers for as long as possible. Part one, to run into siblings, roommates and teachers, is over here, though teachers are also welcome in this post, of course. Because the picnic is outside, it is open to all students, teachers and townies!]

"Still kinda bare? Lotsa shelves, like you'd guess. But! I still get my own room!" Victory shimmy! "We're thinking of going to the island of IKEA to pick up some cheap furniture, 'cause I need a bed of my own. And hey, your place is plenty nice. Way better than living over the bait shop, which is where I thought we might end up."

"It's nice, isn't it, finally having a place to yourself?" Éponine smiled, still absently fiddling with the petals of one of the flowers. "I thought it might be lonely, but it's nice to have some quiet now and then, and now I've Alouette, so it isn't at all. D'you know Mike, who works at Caritas, makes furniture? It wasn't awfully expensive, either."

"I did not know that." Kenzi looked pleased, and considering. "What'd he make for you? How long did it take?" Maybe she could get Bo to ask him for 'help'?

"I needed a proper bedframe, and he said he could make me bookshelves, too," Éponine told her, looking quite pleased about the whole arrangement. Also about having proper furniture. "I'll need those eventually, I think."

She glanced toward where most of the students seemed to be gathered, distractedly humming, then asked as if she'd completely forgotten the previous conversation:

"Are you going to miss being in school?"

"Hmm." Yes, that could be handy. Maybe a closet with secret drawers? HMMM.

"Tchah, no." That was automatic, then Kenzi thought about it. "...a little? Which, wow, I never ever thought I'd say that, but. The classes here, at least, were fun. And useful. I guess learning stuff is okay if it comes in handy." She tilted her head, studying Éponine. "Why d'you ask?"

"I think I'd miss it," Éponine said, still staring off toward the students. "I'm only guessing, of course, but I think I might've enjoyed school too much to want to leave, after all. Isn't that funny, though! I didn't think it was much practical use, only a way for silly rich boys to amuse themselves, but now I --"

She broke off and laughed, a little too brazenly. "Well, never mind that."

"Yeah no," Kenzi said, poking Éponine in the side with pointy fingers. "Who says you can't go?" She looked over at the newbies, then qualified that with, "Well, it doesn't have to be here. They'd make you live in the dorms, and you've just got your own place all nice. But I bet you could find somebody to help you get into a school around here, if you want to... what would you want to learn?"

"Good god, if that's not the problem! There are so many choices I don't know where to start!" Éponine's laugh was more genuine this time. "Allie told me about some classes I could take for free, on the computer, only I don't have one. You don't think, do you, that I could try one or two here and there and see which ones i like?"

"Although," she added after a brief pause, I think I might like learning to draw."

"Ooooo." Kenzi looked intrigued as she nibbled on a potato chip. "They've got computers in the computer lab. And the library. And that's public, so... they'd have to let you use 'em. Bet the library aides could show you how, too." Well, that was optimistic in some cases.... "Maybe you could take a class here? You could always ask Principal Winchester. For school-type person, she's not so bad."

"No, that's all right," said Éponine quickly; there was a limit to how far she was willing to push her luck. "Those kids don't need the likes of me hanging about. I think I might try the library, anyhow, since no matter how that turns out I'll at least have books to read."

Kenzi gave her a Look. "Hey now. I was one of those kids until three months ago. They're not that different from you." She took a large sip of her soda and said, "But hey. Lotsa books in the library. And music, and movies and stuff."
