Library {Saturday}

By the time Cassidy made it safely to the library from the campground, she was shaking so hard she dropped her keys a time or two before she finally got the doors open and rushed in. Once she realized she was safely inside, she dropped down into a the nearest chair and did her best to calm down.

Not only could she not hear a damn thing -- and that was more than a little terrifying -- there were things out there attacking people. She had managed to hurt a couple enough with her Craft to get to the library, but she was still scared to death over what was going on and why she couldn't hear. There were a few people she would have loved to call, but she wouldn't have been able to hear them over the phone and the two that she knew she could connect to with her mental voice were out of range back in Kaeleer and Terrielle.

So here was a red haired witchling, scared and confused, who was going immediately into research mode.

The library was open.

Loki's trip to the library had involved quite a bit of hiding and more than a little bit of running for his life.

A fighter, he was not.

He was really more of a talker. Which was why he was in the library, giving Cassidy a deeply unhappy look.

Cassidy's look was deeply unhappy, as well, but she was glad to see Loki.

She pulled a piece of paper toward her and started writing.

Are you all right -- besides the obvious?

Loki perked up at the paper, digging into his bag for a moment to produce his cell phone where he typed out 'I dislike this day greatly. Could we not have more sharks?' before offering it over for her inspection of the message.

She grinned and pulled out her own phone, wondering why she hadn't thought of that before.

The sharks were entertaining even if they did want to eat us.

Because a witch from a world without phones and a Norse god should always be texting. It was now a rule.

But they did not bring with them a curse that robbed us of our hearing! :(

Loki, you don't need the emoticon. She was right there.

It was Loki and Cassidy, they'd use emoticons if they wanted to!

Next they'll be using 'lol' at each other!

Is there, perhaps, something of use in the library?

Of course they would because they made their own rules!

I'm hoping so. I haven't found anything, yet, but at least they can't get in here while we're researching a way to destroy them.

And should they manage it, we could always lure them into the Special Collections!

Cassidy grinned.

See, the people in charge should just let us make the plans to deal with things like this. :D

No, they really shouldn't.

It would end in tears and lolcats.

It is a wonder they do not recognize our natural skills.

But, it would clearly be entertaining -- at least to them.

Maybe they're afraid of what we could do with all of our combined power and skills.

The internet is a vast source of information and help.

And porn. Mostly porn.

I learn something new every time I go exploring there.

She had luckily not come across any porn, yet.

YET. Loki was not planning to be around when she did.

No, when she came across porn, she would be too shocked to share what she found with Loki. She wouldn't want to traumatize her BFF.

Cassidy nodded and pulled one of the laptops over to the two of them with Craft.

That was probably better than "ugly things with wings and claws that Hell kicked out", wasn't it?

Cassidy nodded and started typing, waiting for the magic of The Wikipedia to help them.

And what they found...

Well, if they ever needed to know how to cuss someone out in ASL, they had all the information in the world.

I do not think they understand the word 'curse'

Cassidy shook her head, still staring at the information in confusion, though she was tempted to try some of the hand signals.

Maybe we should try using the Latin word for curse, instead?

Loki nodded enthusiastically at that. Yes, Latin would help!

Or get them results from the acclaimed Barry Plodder series. Either or.

Cassidy typed in Pestis and then frowned at all of the links (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?search=Pestis+Pestis&title=Special%3ASearch) that were being listed.

I think The Wikipedia is confused.

Loki sighed silently, trying to think of another thing to ask Wikipedia. See, normally he'd make Ikol assist with this, but the bird was lacking in thumbs to respond with.

The harpies instead then?

Cassidy smiled and started typing again... then staring at one of the images (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harpy) of the harpy on the page.

That is not quite what was attacking me as I ran here, but almost?

The things attacking her didn't have... well... and they stank.

Similar, though. Perhaps if we search for harpy-like?
