Around the World in Seven Weeks [Tuesday, July 16, 2013, 2nd period]

The Skywalkers were looking more grave than usual as they stood in the Portalocity office, and Ben's eyes kept sliding to the spot where Anakin had stood during last session's briefings, but they weren't going to share the cause of their grief unless pressed on it.

"Today we're going to the Asian country of Azerbaijan," Anakin began, pointing to it on the map. "It's a former Soviet nation that speaks a combination of Russian, Farsi and Turkish and is rich in natural gas. You will be performing your tasks in the capital city of Baku."

Ben nodded. "Hopefully you didn't wear anything you love too much."

That wasn't helpful, Ben.

"We'll see you at the end of the course. Don't get hurt."

Go to the Maiden Tower in Old Town Baku and count the number of steps in the narrow, dark, spiral staircases that take you to the top of the monument. If you don't get the number right, you'll have to try again.

That was a disgusting amount of stairs! And Karina had to go up every single one of them twice over because the first time she ascended, she was too busy bitching to herself about the stairs to get a proper count.

But at least it counted as a lot of exercise? Right. Sure. She'd go with that.

Theo...knew this was going to go bad as soon as he got into the staircase. He started counting, tripped and lost count. So, he had start again.

He was halfway through the second time when Dev started talking about something, Ange joined in, it turned into an argument and totally distracted him and he lost count. Again.

Back at the bottom, he started for a third time and got all the way to the top and...got the number wrong.

Thoroughly frustrated now, Theo started at the bottom and counted very slowly which meant he finally got the number right. Ugh.

Cordelia could hate this. Or she could think of it as time she didn't have to go near the Stairmaster. And with that in mind, she counted out loud the whole time she walked up, because she was not doing this over, are you kidding?

So yay for getting it on the first try!

Korra was pretty active, this wasn't that bad, really, just boring. Plus she got the number of steps right first try, so that helped.

Kathy lost track about halfway up the stairs for her first run, so she jumped back down and started back up, paying a lot more attention to each stair. She ended up taking the stairs much slower than she could, but she had the number right when she got to the top.

In Oil, you travel to a health spa where they will cover you completely in crude oil, and remove it with a shoehorn, then icy cold water.

In Apple, you go to one of the fruit markets scattered throughout the city and find a Lada full of apples:

and search through all of them until you find one of seven apples marked with a flag.

Apples had seemed like an okay choice until she actually... got to the car.

Filled with apples. Karina threw up her arms and gave serious thought to just giving up because what the hell.

But giving up wasn't really her style and after petulantly sulking and glowering at the car for a goodly bit, she started looking for the stupid apple she needed.

To add insult to injury, once she bothered to start looking, it didn't take her very long at all. Ugh. She'd totally screwed her own ranking over, hadn't she?

By the time Theo got to the detour, he knew he was far behind so he just went with the oil because it sounded the least strenuous. He was exhausted from climbing the stairs.

The oil felt gross going on and the water about froze him when it was poured on top of him but he managed to finish without any hold up. So, he moved on.

While the words "health spa" were appealing, the words "crude oil" were not, and so Cordelia went with the car full of apples.

And happened to stumble across one of the apples within a minute or two, because everything was just coming up Cordelia today.

Korra went for the health spa option, which was kind of weird, but hey, new experiences. She was glad she had her bending to quickly get dry though.

Crude oil? No thank you! Kathy was tempted just to go and complain about what a waste of natural resources that was, but decided to go for the apples instead.

Her apple was pretty far into the car though, and required a bit of searching before she could get to it.

Possibly never wanting to see an apple again in your life...

"A car full of apples?!" she demanded as she approached. "Why?"

Who even did that?

"Because the car full of eggs seemed needlessly messy," Ben offered. "You're fifth today."

Theo came in without a word because his legs were aching from that staircase and he just wanted to go back to his room and sit down and rest.

But, he'd finished. That was something.

"You look disgruntled," Anakin observed.

"Had some trouble with the stairs," Theo admitted, stretching his aching legs a bit. "My legs are killing me."

"The tower is pretty tall," Anakin agreed. "Nice view, though."

"That wasn't so hard," Cordelia decided.

Everyone probably hated you, Cordelia.

"Good," Ben said. "You're first."

There looked to be a lot less people already there than last week, score.

"You're second today," Anakin told her.

Ha! Kathy came in, munching on the apple, making sure the flag was in plain sight.

"You're third today," Ben said, then looked at the apple. "You washed that, right?"

"For the second week in a row," Kathy sighed, then paused. "Uhh, was I supposed to?"

"If you didn't want to have stomach issues later...probably," Ben said, making a little face.

"Great," Kathy said, throwing up her hands. "I successfully survive all the weirdness of the island, just to be taken down by some kind of stomach thing."
