Sex Cultures: 6th Period

"First of all, I would like to thank you all for your wonderful presentations on Tuesday. I was pleased with all of your work."

"For our class today, we're going to study something a little bit different. The course is called Sex Cultures, but there must also, logically, be a state on the opposite side of that spectrum.

So... No-Sex Cultures. Today, we'll take our virgin plunge into the world of chastity, abstinence, celibacy, and asexuality.

Now, I am not going to ask for technical definitions when we discuss these ideas in class because I like my brain unbroken, kthx, as we are going to function using the most base, widely accepted interpretations.

And instead of lecturing you this afternoon, I'm going to give you this handout, and I want you to pick one name save Hamlet wtf and write a quick reaction to their presence on the list. Hand it in before you go. Thank you."

[This assumes that those of you not from Earthly history have, by this point, been exposed to at least the notion and name of like, Jesus, from Christmas, or have at some point heard the name of some of the famous authors or historical figures from a class, or watching TV, or reading a book, or not living entirely under a rock, etc. If your character actually lives under a rock, just have them try to make something up so that they pass. That could be funny. Okay?]

Isaac Newton is on the list because he was too busy with inventing things like the law of gravity, so he had no time for love, Doctor Jones Grissom.

I'm amazed Morrisey in the list, because come on he must have had hundreds of women throwing themselves at him every night and you can't tell me any man would turn that down?

Plus he was pretty cute in a kinda less than obvious way, so yeah I think there's been a major mistake there. However if he was a virgin I guess that could explain his whole miserable persona right?

Denise Pfeiffer? She's a model, some models just give it up to get gigs and stuff; I really don't get the whole 'devout' thing, as it doesn't make sense. Especially if you're a hot woman. Remember, 'sex sells' !

Shep is kind of bummed that he can't write about Queen Victoria and some of her whacked out theories of virginity and sex.

So he picks J. Edgar Hoover.

"The guy was the inveneter of the FBI - very big wig and all of that. But he was a crossdresser. Now, seriously, who wants to sleep with a guy who will arrest you for talking in your sleep... while he's in his pink lace frillies and sexy black bustier. That would just be terminally embarassing. I wouldn't sleep with him either."

Jane Austen wrote really sappy, overly girly stories. Her views on romance obviously were formulated from a stance that didn't include a regular possibility of kissing and/or making out with boys. One can only imagine what Pride and Prejudice would've been like if she ever actually got some.

Cally is rather happy with that answer.

I'm actually not surprised that Anna Freud is on that list. From what I've read of her father's works, celibacy probably sounded like the most sane option. Also, can you imagine that introduction of suitor to father?

John Harvey Kellogg invented corn flakes. He also thought that masturbation caused acne. He wrote some pretty extreme stuff on the evils of all forms of sex. How do you go from corn flakes to no sex?

Izzie turns in her paper, and wrinkles her nose. She's definitely going to stop eating corn flakes.

I actually have no idea who A.C. Green and Gary Neville are, but they're athletes, and I can sort of speak from experience about how focusing on your training and practice routine can take over your life until you don't even think about anything else. Some people are just way dedicated like that. It's kind of scary when you get that focused, though. That's what people used to tell me.

Of course, I got over it. Not that I don't train any more, I just have other things to do, too.

Well, I'm not surprised to see Mary, the Mother of Christ, on the list, but I dispute it. Sure she was a virgin when He was conceived, but it's unreasonable to believe that a married woman never had sexual relations with her husband. Yes, I'm paraphrasing Dogma, shut up. Allie's an athiest in canon so it fits.

Pip goes with one of his country's famous heroes.

Joan of Arc was a virgin mostly because, as far as I can tell from her history, she never had time to have sex of any sort. I mean, by the time she was sixteen she was already having visions and trying to reclaim the throne for the rightful French king. Most of the time after that before he death at nineteen she spent fighting. She was a driven woman. Probably just didn't have the time to waste.

The Smiths? Oh yeah, although I don't know if the kids today (the average 18/under) would know who he was. Although Morrisey is just about the same amount of virgin as I am.

((that was my thought entirely which is why I want to pick him, and strictly speaking Paige was a teenager in the 80s so I think I can work it!))
