Ah, wasn't it good to come back from a week off to more of these yahoos teaching you about the weird shit out in the world?

"Hey, kids," one of the yahoos said, arms crossed over his chest. "My name's Dean Winchester for all you new kids. And this yeti here is my brother Samantha."

"It's Sam, actually," Sam said with a glare at Dean. Why had he thought the second round of this would be easier than the first? "And we're very glad to see all of you, especially those of you who we've had the pleasure of teaching before."

Dean shrugged at that. Because the nice one was Sam. Unless you were trying to kill Dean. In which case, oh god head for the hills. "Since this is the second half of a class, we're gonna just jump right into the next lesson: cursed objects."

"Now these are exactly what they sound like," Sam said, "objects that have a curse on them for whoever owns the object, or sometimes just for whoever made the mistake of touching it. And getting rid of the curse doesn't just mean getting rid of the object."

"You gotta seal that bad sucker up," Dean added. "Curse boxes. Find yourself a friendly witch or witch doctor to help you put sigils on the container so the curse can't get out and then put that thing somewhere no one can get to it. Because, in a lot of cases, destroying it doesn't always work."

"Now since it's the first week back and there are some new faces, we'd like you all to go around and introduce yourselves. Tell us and everyone else your name, what grade you're going into, and what kind of curse you'd least like to be hit with. Like, for example, I think not being able to read would be the worst curse I could imagine." That's what happened when you were a nerd.

Dean just shot him a look. "Yeah. Sounds horrible."

"I'm Raven Darkholme," Raven said with a wave and an extra little smirk for Dean. "I'll be a sophomore. And I'm not sure. I guess anything that took away my, uh. Special talents."

Not being able to shapeshift would just be weird, okay? She couldn't think of much of anything worse than that.

"Or, you know, a death curse would probably be pretty terrible."

"Back again, huh?" Interesting habit of hanging out with hunters, Raven. "Most curses end with death. The messier, the more powerful."

"Let my brother pick my classes again." She'd stop letting him do that, but then he'd sulk at her. From New York. And then probably do it anyway. "And I'm pretty sure most lives end in death. Frequently messily."

"Yeah, yeah. Life's a bitch and then you die. And then you're something else's bitch."

And then, if you're Dean, you come back to life and it's an even bigger bitch.

"So how is illiteracy fatal, then? If it's a curse."

"Ask Sam, he's the one who picked a lame curse." Dean was not having this illiteracy crap. "How about being compelled to dance till your feet are gone instead?"

"Isn't that one of Hans Christian Andersen's?" The Xaviers had quite a library, including all the classics. "You could always find a woodcutter to chop them off for you."

That got a quick grin from him. "Maybe. Where do you think the ides for those things came from?"

Raven thought about that for several moments, her expression going through a number of tiny shifts before finally settling on faintly appalled.

"That's pretty horrifying," she said.

The Xaviers had the classics.

There there, Raven. There there.

Just wait until he starts his rants about religion. All religions.

"Yep." Thanks for being so clear on that, Dean.

"Your world is kinda terrible," Raven said.

This coming from a girl from a world where the Cuban Missle Crisis would be caused by angry disenfranchised mutants and radical groups would call themselves evil on purpose.
