Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

The weather was just as hazy, hot and humid as a typical July on the East Coast of the United States could get, but the sun was shining brightly, which was kind of a rarity this summer.

It wasn't raining anything weird, the teal deer were keeping to themselves in the Preserve, and another welcome picnic was underway complete with tables and chairs for chatting around and a buffet table filled (and then some) with all kinds of moddable summer treats.

The lists of new roommates, student siblings and teaching buddies were posted in a prominent location. Now all that was needed were people to enjoy the day!

[OOC: This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic will be in post two in an effort to stop our browsers from dying. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers and townies!

"Not mutant. Well, not any more than any member of genetically diverse species. Salarian. New to Earth. Originated from Sur-Kesh. You are Earth native? Of course you are. Asking questions to which I have answers. Earth has no colonies. Trying to make conversation. What place on Earth?"

Mordin wouldn't know the location unless it was a metropolitan on one of the maps he had studied, but he would have to learn regional differences between humans slowly, and piece by piece.

"A town in California called Beacon Hills," Stiles said. "It's a lot like Fandom, what with the, um, strange and unusual. Which is what you qualify as considering extraterrestrial life isn't the norm for this planet yet. No offense.

He really didn't want to offend the alien and get blown up by his death ray or something.

"No offense taken. Assumed that my arrival would be seen as strange. First contact of humans when I originate from resulted in humans breaking galactic law and turian aggression. Introduction of species to interstellar life is rocky. Confusing."

Mordin backtracked for a moment, realizing his poor choice of words. "Do not mean to suggest that contact with me will result in aggression. Salarians are not particularly aggressive. Here to study and learn."

"You picked a good place to study," Stiles said. "We've got a little bit of everything here. If you think something doesn't exist it likely does here. Believe in everything."

"Scientist, first and foremost. Will believe in hypotheses proved true by extensive testing. Not calling you a liar. Just following own creed."

But it was good to know that he wasn't the only oddity to be found on the island.

"Have you chosen classes? Taking classes on philosophy, etiquette, and meditation. Interested in basics of human culture, first. How you interact with the larger issues, with each other, with the self."

"Um yeah, a class on food, a class on weird pets and one on monsters," Stiles said, feeling kind of lame about his choices compared to Mordin. "I, uh, yeah the monster one is because I deal with a lot of monsters the other two...I like to eat and I have a dog."

He was so lame, seriously.

Mordin screwed up his face a little in curiousity. "Ah, yes. Saw monster class on roster. You deal with a lot of monsters?"

Mordin also was curious as to the criteria of the categorization of 'monsters', as by all accounts he could fall under that heading to humans. But one question at a time.

"Uh, yeah, werewolves mostly," Stiles said. "...do you know what a werewolf is?"

"No. No, have never heard of werewolves," Mordin replied.

"It's kind of hard to explain in a way that doesn't sound stupid," Stiles said. "They're not technically human even though they look human most of the time, but they can also turn into wolf-like things. And they lose control during the full moon."

"Fascinating." Mordin breathed in. "And you see them often around here? Lucky to have you as my Big Sibling. Teach me to look out at full moon."

"Probably a good idea," he said. "I'm here to help you, dude. I imagine you're going to be fine considering you seem to be a curious kind of guy that doesn't scare easily. That'll definitely help around here."

"Good to know I have a compatible personality with my surroundings. Comforting. Any important information I should know?" Mordin asked. "Advice, guidance, warnings?"
robinonadderall: ([pos] hmm yeah no)

"Just go with the flow. People might be a little surprised by you at first, but everybody is usually pretty nice," he said. "Also all the food in the common rooms are free, eat whatever you want."

"Good, good. Thank you for the advice. And for the tip about the food. Eat often. Keeps up mood and brain function."
