When the students arrived at the Danger Shop, they'd find things looking just a little different than usual--everything was laid out in the same general place, but instead of being planted on the ground, the targets were hanging from the ceiling, and some of them were swaying back and forth. Some of them were stationary, but Clint was poking at the controls to try to fix that.

"I think a lot of you are ready for the next step in your practice which, in case it wasn't obvious, is hitting a moving target. Unless you're going to do archery for recreation or a sport, you're probably going to be shooting at things that are moving - hopefully just moving around and not moving towards you at a high speed." Some people weren't always that lucky, sigh.

"The key is to watch how your target is moving, and try to anticipate where it'll be when you fire. Your targets here should have a pretty steady back and forth going. Obviously, in the real world it won't always be that easy, but you've got to start somewhere," he said, grinning at them. "Take your time when you shoot, and don't get frustrated right away." It was probably easy for the guy who could hit things without looking at them to say that, but he was just trying to be supportive here.

They're all moving at different speeds, some slow and some not-so-slow for the students who like their challenges.

Zee was still having trouble hitting stationary targets, so she was sticking to the very slowest of the moving targets. And the stationary ones, if she was lucky enough to find one before Clint got the controls working again.

This class was frustrating, but it was a good frustration. One she could work through with an obvious goal. And she could feel herself getting incrementally better.

Clint would just be over here resisting the urge to take the controls apart. Surely, it would at least be interesting to see.

And Natalie... had a couple of bags with her, along with two takeaway coffees, one of which was huge and all hers.

She probably wouldn't have had to show up straight from her trip, but she was a good TA and liked her routine.

"Either you were too tired to go back to your bouncy castle and then come here, or you really want me to ask about your trip," Clint said. "So, how was your trip?"

"It's more the first thing," Natalie told him, in case the way she as nursing her coffee wasn't a good indication of that. "But it was fine. Hotel bed was definitely nicer than the bouncy castle, for one thing."

"Probably a little more private, if not warmer," Clint said with a laugh. "You didn't come back just for this class, did you?"

"No." She wasn't that great a TA. "But my diplomatic duties are over for now, and I figured I might as well come in since I came back in time for this."

"Ah, for now. So you get to go back again?" Clint asked. "'Diplomatic duties' makes it sound like you didn't get to have much fun."

"I'm not sure diplomacy is supposed to be fun," Natalie told him, but with a faint upwards quirk of one of the corners of her mouth. A faint, tired smile. "But it was okay. Something a little different."

"I suppose new experiences are a good thing. You didn't miss anything exciting here," Clint said. "Which is good, because if you'd missed something awful I'd be very mad."

"That seems a bit unfair. To me."

She didn't seem terribly upset by this.

"Okay, maybe I'd be annoyed at the island more than your good timing," Clint said.

"That's better," Natalie replied with an appreaciative nod. "I'm too tired for anyone to be that mean to me."

"Relax then. Today's going to be an easy day, all you have to do is sit here if you want to," Clint assured her.
