Hitting Things 101- Tuesday- 4th period

The class was in the gym today, with mats set down on the floor. Regular mats, no sign of sumo anything.

"So after last week, I figure I'll give you something no one will find silly, or roll their eyes at," Jaina began. Though last week had been great for her. It was just too bad she didn't tape it. "This week you're going to be hitting each other. I want you guys to pair up and do some sparring. If it makes you more comfortable, there's padding in the lockers back there, and if anyone needs help, just let me know."

See, Jaina could be nice to you sometimes.

If Jessica didn't look terribly into hitting people today, that would be because she wasn't, and that was a very astute observation by you.

But still, she was ready to participate if anyone made her.

"You don't look terribly into hitting people today," Cade observed.

Astutely.

Anakin Solo

In the continued spirit of obsessively training in every possible second he could spare ever, Anakin was definitely up for this.

Alex Jones

One of Alex's favorite things to do was train. She was so up for this, too.

"Hey," she said. "Feel like sparring?"

"Sure. It's why we're here anyway, isn't it?" asked Anakin. "Is this something you do a lot?"

"I go to the gym a lot to hit a bag," Alex admitted. "Haven't sparred with anyone in awhile, though."

Not since Nikita back at the loft.

"I've mostly been working with training droids lately, too," Anakin said, nodding. Because Tahiri wasn't recovered enough yet to be quite up to it, most of the other Jedi kids on the Errant Venture were too young for him to get anything out of a spar, and all the other Jedi were stretched too thin as it was. "Either way, it's not the same."

"Droids?" Alex was kind of impressed. "Still cooler than hitting a bag."

Well, it was cool to someone who never did anything like that.

"Yeah, the droids can at least hit back," Anakin agreed. "The only problem is, I program them myself so after a while they still get predictable."

He grinned crookedly. "I'll try not to be."

"I don't really feel like it either," Jessica said. "So at least I'm being consistent."

"Same here," Alex grinned back. "I'm Alex, by the way. So you know who you're sparring with."

In case he didn't know from being in two classes on the same day with her. She was just making it official.

"Home didn't go too well?" Cade guessed.

He did know, but as much as he tended to keep to himself in classes it would be a valid concern.

"Anakin," he answered, then (thereby proving he'd been in Fandom long enough to adopt it as second nature) immediately added, "Solo. Anakin Skywalker's my grandfather."

When had he started saying that with just a touch of pride, exactly? Huh.

"Either you're from a place with really great anti-aging tech or there's weird time stuff happening," Alex noted as she reached for a pair of training gloves. "Because your grandfather looks pretty young for a guy who's...a grandfather."

Well, everything else in the GFFA was ridiculous, so why not? Anyway.

"Weird time stuff," Anakin confirmed, and waved a hand (already encased in a sparring glove) in Jaina's direction. "Like my sister. She's actually only a couple of years older than me, but this version of her comes from a lot later."

Alex glanced at Jaina than back at Anakin. "I can see the resemblance."

Now that she thought about it more.

Anakin nodded. "That's what everyone says." At home, mostly, where they'd been plastered all over the HoloNet for years. With a sigh, he added, "She's a better pilot than me, though."

See, he could be generous, sibling rivalry be damned.

Shane Gooseman

"You program droids and you're a pilot?" Alex raised an eyebrow. "Nice."

She got into a proper sparring stance.

"Well, I'm only here because I escaped federal custody. And that's the good news," Jessica said. "The bad news is way worse."

Anakin's galaxy really was ridiculous. "Yes?" he said, just a touch uncertain. "Is that weird?"

"Not weird," Alex replied. "Impressive."

Not many people their age were pilots. At least in this galaxy.

Snow White

"Well . . . thanks, I guess," Anakin replied as he began to circle her, hands at his sides but relaxed and ready.

Cade winced. "Way worse?"

"Closing in on half a million dead," Jessica said. "That kind of worse."

Cade was a heartless dick, but no one was that heartless. "Echuta," he cursed softly. "The robots?"

"That's a small part of it," Jessica said. "Then something of a cold war heated up. My America hit the other guys. They hit back a lot harder."

"I really don't want to get into specifics right now," Jessica said, mainly because she was standing roughly an hour away and one dimension over from where it happened. "But it's not good."

Cade wasn't about to push it--he hated how Ender was pushing him to share and whatever.

"Drinks on Friday?" he suggested, since he was all about healthy coping.

"That works for me. I definitely need a few drinks," Jessica said.
