Hunting 101, Wednesday (3rd Period)
"Okay, so today we're gonna talk about spirits," Dean said once the class had assembled. Because why beat around the bush in a class on the subject?
"Unfortunately, we're not talking aboutmeta for Casper the friendly ghost here," Sam said as he looked around at their class. "Most spirits are decidedly unfriendly, even if they don't start out that way."
"See, ghosts happen when someone dies--usually violently--and can't move onto the great beyond when the reapers come for 'em," Dean added with a smirk. "Sometimes they're just stuck in a loop, replaying their moment of death over and over again, unable to actually interact with you. Scares the crap out of homeowners."
Dean cleared his throat, trying to stay on topic and be ~professional~ about this teaching thing. "But sometimes they're aware of what's going on. But they can't do anything about it, they have something to tell people or they want to keep hurting people. So they get pissed off. And that kind of anger gives them the sort of energy they need to make stuff happen. It also makes them kinda homicidal."
"Sometimes, ghosts are generally homicidal to everyone who enters their space, but some ghosts are very specific about the people they haunt," Sam continued. "For example, there's women in white, who tend to haunt men who have been unfaithful. Usually, in life, they were cheated on and betrayed, and sometimes even murdered by their cheating lovers. Some of them have killed their children, usually by drowning, and then killed themselves, so a lot of them are associated with water and found in places where there are lakes and rivers nearby."
"Another nasty mother--" No cursing, Dean. "Another nasty spirit we have is the poltergeist. They're like--pissed off two year olds who just want you to pay attention to 'em. And they'll keep it up to keep your attention on them. The stuff you hear about leaving a room and coming back to it with everything open a minute later? Usually a poltergeist. They tend to be big, bad, and tough to get rid of once you're there. Sometimes a blessing'll work on them, sometimes--" He cleared his throat, eyes darting over to his brother for a moment. "--sometimes you can't do shit to stop them without help. They tend to be attracted to areas where some really nasty stuff went down. Demonic type stuff."
Sam wasn't sure what that look was for, but he had an inkling that it wasn't about anything good. Call it a Winchester hunch. "The best way to find someone being haunted is to look in the news. Obviously, you won't find an article talking outright about what's happening, but a lot of times things that seem strange and unexplainable have a ghostly explanation--especially if the victims of the crimes aren't great people, or if there are a bunch that all have something in common."
"So, we wanna see you guys come up with how to tell the difference between tourist crap they say to draw people in and the legitimate hauntings out there," Dean added. "Dazzle us."

Listen to the lecture
Okay, sorry, it's mostly gloom and doom and bad things. At least Dean and Sam are nice to look at?
Discuss/Read the newspaper
moddablevariety of strange stories."Take a look through these and see if you can distinguish the real ghost stories from the crap," Sam said. "What might clue you in that something seriously wrong is going on?"
Re: Discuss/Read the newspaper
She kept checking her notes for ideas on how to tell the normal weird from the seriously weird.
Totally out of her depth? Definitely.
Re: Discuss/Read the newspaper
Re: Discuss/Read the newspaper
If a dead member of the Blood was strong enough to be walking the Realms and haunting, they rarely managed to do so without creating chaos around them, no matter how random it seemed at the time.
Re: Discuss/Read the newspaper
"Looking for people actually dying or disappearing would be a start," she observed.
Talk to the Teachers
Re: Talk to the Teachers
Dean was there, though. And maybe excited about the class. Ghosts were easy compared to other crap after all.
Re: Talk to the Teachers
