Archery 101 [Friday, Second Period]

When the students arrived in the Danger Shop today, they'd find a row of targets set up, some further away than others, along with the bows from last week, and arrows! Gosh, Clint loved arrows.

"Hey guys. This is probably the most talking I'll do all summer, but it's also really important," he said. "If you already know how to shoot, congratulations, you've advanced today, and you can go ahead and grab a bow or take your own and go to the far targets. For the rest of you, let's go over some of the basics of shooting."

Clint got everyone lined up in front of the rest of the targets, and went over all the important basics - general safety so they didn't accidentally hurt themselves (he liked the Danger Shop but he still wasn't 100% confident about the technology), the proper stance to take when shooting, and most importantly, how to actually fire an arrow without dropping it.

"I want you to work on your stance and form first," he said when he was done. "Get an armguard and pick a bow you like and practice drawing it until you feel comfortable. Then, if you're feeling up to it, try shooting and see how it goes. I'll be here if you need any help."

Alec made a mistake and didn't start immediately after Clint gave the advanced students permission to start practicing, and then he felt rude getting up in the middle of the lecture, so he wound up having to listen to the whole thing.

Which wasn't terrible, because a lot of this stuff, Alec hadn't known before and had just sort of guessed.

Snow was playing close attention. This kind of knowledge was going to be important when she returned to Tabor.

Zeela was pretty sure she had never paid more attention to a teacher before in her life. She was so close to taking notes it wasn't even funny.

Well, except to Sholeh who was quietly teasing her about being a scholar--at least until Zee told her to hush, because she was trying to listen.

Stance and form were the things Alex learned quickly while training in the past, so she was hoping for the same with the bow and arrow. She understood the importance of it, and so she worked on it for awhile.

Zee had trouble with her form. Her elbow kept moving towards the bow, no matter how she tried to keep it straight.

For awhile, it seemed like she'd have to choose between being able to hold the arrow or keeping her arm straight. Doing both seemed kind of beyond her at this time.

Alec claimed a longbow and got to work. His main focus today was grouping: he'd never thought to practice just hitting the same spot, even if it wasn't the center of the target, and it seemed like a useful thing to know how to do.

That was probably Clint, then, right? Because Natalie had zero plans for the weekend, and with the week she'd had, that was kind of bad.

But, she'd brought coffee and her bow. She was fine. Really.

I feel kind of obligated to disclaim that I'm not certified to teach (yet, I'm working on that) so that post should in no way be used as a substitute for actual instruction in real life if you end up deciding you actually want to try it out.

But if you did want to I would enable you like an enabling thing.

...I'm trying to figure out how that modular arrowhead thing would work now. O.o
