Advanced Survivalism, Friday, Period 1

It probably wasn't something you would expect from a workshop in 'survivalism,' but the first lesson was actually taking place inside a normal classroom. The reason would be obvious about ten seconds after the bell rang. And that reason was because the teacher liked to make an entrance.

And that's exactly what he did, swinging through the window on his grapple line, arching upwards, and falling gracefully onto his desk, all while his cape billowed dramatically.

He was going to pay for that window.

"I'm Batman," he said, his voice almost a growl. This was his normal speaking voice, kids! Get used to it!

Batman rose to his full height as he stepped off the desk. Even though his cape draped over his entire body, not showing an inch of the gray costume underneath, he was clearly built. And the pointy cowl just made him seem taller as he paced in front of the class. "You're here to learn about surviving the worst, most bizarre, and possibly most typical of Fandom situations anyone could devise. You will be pushed. You will have to think on your feet. At times, you will have to rely on each other. If you can manage all of that, you'll learn something. If not, leave now."

He didn't even wait for anyone to leave before continuing. If they were going, they were no longer any of his concern. "You'll receive notice before class each week where to meet," Batman said. Once he was sure that everyone who was going to stay would, he pulled a key out of his utility belt, locked the classroom door, and put the key back. "Sometimes it will be in the Danger Shop where the lessons can be more elaborate. Other times, we'll go with something a little more practical."

Batman started to stalk toward a closet at the back of the room. "Today will be your typical first class introductions. Name, school year you'll be entering in the fall, relative experience with bizarre survival situations outside of Fandom. And because this is my class, you have to present yourself while dealing with a problem. And one of the most frequent problems I've encountered is homicidal clowns."

Batman opened the closet door and a stream of gremlins dressed as clowns rushed out. If the students let the gremlins get close enough, they might notice that their clown gloves kept them from clawing or grabbing and the makeup around their lips were actually part of a well-disguised mouth guard system that would make their teeth look threatening while keeping them from doing any damage. Yes, Batman made all of this himself. Look, Fandom didn't have crime to fight. His free time was astonishing.

Anyway, the students were in absolutely no danger, but they had no easy way of telling that at the moment.

Above any ruckus being caused by the charging gremlin clowns, Batman called out, "Stephanie Brown has been volunteered to be my TA. If you have any issues you'd like to discuss with her or myself, see us after class. In the meantime, start introducing yourselves and try to avoid gremlin bites."

[OOC: I'll still be largely out and about today in NYC, but may have time for SP on my iPad between things. Very little time, most likely.]

One of the not so great things about not being in complete control of your body? Sometimes danger triggered a shift. In this case, seeing the swarm of gremling made the nails on one of Jackson's hands turn into sharp claws. Just for a few seconds. Just until he told himself this was a class situation, and not real danger. The claws were already gone when he curled his hand into a fist.

And he hadn't even noticed. That was just great.

Karina jumped when the teacher was crazy enough to smash through a window just to make an entrance.

The murder-clown gremlins were just an added layer of 'oh god, why?' to this.

(Though she couldn't help but think that Agnes would appreciate his sense of the dramatic.)

Great. Were all her teachers fancy superhero-type show-offs? Ugh.

Gert looked supremely unimpressed as she looked on, arms crossed over her chest.

Emily just watched, and wondered. Maybe this guy would be able to teach her something after all the crazy.

She did kick any gremlins that got too close. In the face.

What was going on, Victor thought. was that this guy was awesome. Duh. I mean, clearly insane, possibly in a way that made him not entirely safe around children, but awesome all the same.

Karina had the desire to just start laughing and maybe never stop as she clambered up on her desk and prepared to whack the gremlins with her chair.

Oh. Right. Introductions. "I'm Karina Lyle," she said, shooing a few gremlins away with a threatening wave of her chair. "Junior in the fall. I've only got the last semester of being on the island for experience in the bizarre."

That last bit was a total lie and she was sticking to it.

Jackson kicked away some of the clown gremlins.

"Jackson Whittemore. Senior." He liked being efficient with introductions. Also, there were gremlins. "Plenty of experience with surviving bizarre things."

He was a bizarre thing, and didn't want to get into it.

William pulled off his suit jacket and was using that to swat away gremlins as he spoke. "William Murdoch, senior, and- I've lived here for a few years now. That's a lesson in and of itself."

Alex stood in a fight stance, prepared to punch any gremlins that approached. "I'm Alex...U...Jones."

She was still getting used to the new alias. "Junior. And I have only a few days of experiencing the bizarre."

There were now a bunch of gremlins skidding over a patch of ice that had mysteriously appeared on the floor.

"Korra, senior, and I don't know that I'd call any of it bizarre."

"I'm Gert, I'm gonna be a junior, and--" low kick toward one of the gremlins-- "all my experience with this stuff is when I have my dinosaur with me."

Victor figured out fairly quickly that the gremlins weren't actually dangerous, which made him feel like zapping them in front of the class would be overkill. He did, however, smack them away when they got too close.

"Hey, I'm Victor Mancha," he said, and then had to take a break to kneecap a gremlin. When it was gone, he added: "Rising senior. I've been fighting strange stuff for a year on the island, and a year before that at home."

"Emily Thorne, senior," Emily said, assuming that was how things worked. "And nothing much, really," she lied, and it was a pretty good lie, mostly because she had been saying it since before Fandom. Still...

"Well alright, most things since January have been bizarre, but does the island count?"

Re: Talk to Stephanie

[identity profile] batwaffles.livejournal.com 2013-05-17 03:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Yup, Stephanie was here, apparently unperturbed by the way Batman had chosen to make his appearance. Technically, her reaction was closer to an internal sigh of resignation because color her so completely unsurprised, but for appearance's sake she was just going to dial that down to outward nonchalance and claim she was used to this from the version of him who patrolled her Gotham.

Which was technically true, right?

She'd also taken it upon herself to have a large butterfly net on hand, purportedly for gremlin-wrangling purposes -- she figured it'd enhance the effect of the whole thing. Look, see, initiative and stuff!
