The class had been instructed to meet by the Portalocity office where they were met by a tall blond man in traditional Jedi robes and a shorter redhead about five years younger in jeans and a t-shirt.

"Hi," the younger one said. "I'm Ben Skywalker and this is my grandfather Anakin: long story if you're wondering about the age thing and you're new to Fandom. Welcome to Try Not to Die!!!"

The extra exclamation points had been his idea.

Anakin looked more serious. "It's summer time, so our classes aren't quite so...fraught with peril," he began, "but it's still not a time to let our wits and our instincts atrophy. This class will place you into unfamiliar situation and make you complete tasks in a certain amount of time, then return to a final location. It tests your ability to adapt, follow directions, and navigate through places where you might not know the languages or customs of where you are."

"But today we're starting out fairly easy," Ben assured them. "Through that portal is modern-day England, though your tasks are more medievally focused. Your job is to race as quickly and as safely through your obstacles, then make your way to the checkpoint where Granddad and I will be waiting for you."

Anakin, who watched far too much Amazing Race, intoned, "Your time starts...now!" and stepped out of their way.

Wet, possibly covered in watermelon bits...isn't this class fun?

Maddie got to the check-in, wet, but not covered in watermelon bits. See, a good day. And despite the annoyance while doing these things, she was kind of excited to see where she placed.

"Hello," Anakin greeted her. "You are the eleventh student to arrive."

Theo didn't see anyone else around when he trotted into the finish line. His shirt was soaked and his shoes were pretty much stained with watermelon juice but he'd made it in.

At least Dev and Ange could both be happy about that.

"Congratulations, you're first," Ben said with a grin. "Who are you?"

"First?" That was surprising. "Uh, I'm Theo. New kid. Currently covered in watermelons."

Gert was wet, cranky, and extremely out of breath by the time she reached the finish line, and, surprise surprise, everyone was already there. That was embarrassing, but she did her best to appear simply annoyed with the class and not mortified by her own ineptitude.

"I'd rather be in Public Speaking again," she groused as soon as she had enough air in her lungs again to do so.

"That impressed, huh," Anakin said dryly.

"Next time I should really--" pant-- "check out the description and not just the class title. I was expecting survival skills."

She wasn't really angry, though, because she did see how this was going to be useful. Just ready for a very, very thorough nap.

Korra could only see what must have been one of the new kids when she rocked up tot he check-in. Hey, second wasn't so bad.

"You're second," Ben confirmed. "Well done!"

Victor was wet and had watermelon all over his shirt, and was vastly annoyed the stupid horse had him toward the back of the pack.

At least he wasn't last -- sorry, Gert -- but he'd have to do better next week.

"You are the twelfth student to arrive," Anakin intoned.

Alex arrived at the check in, wet and tired. Also, she kind of hated watermelons now. But she made it.

"Hi, you're ninth!" Ben greeted her. "What's your name?"

Anna and her white dress were neither wet nor covered in watermelon bits, but she was hoping no one would notice. Looking around at her classmates, though, she realized she stood out rather like a sore thumb, and feared her hope had been in vain.

"Hello," Anakin said with a little smile. "You're the fifth person to arrive."

Anakin's boots and pants were fairly damp from the boat trip, even if he was free of watermelon carnage.

He was, however, a mess of mud and grass stains, and annoyed at coming in sixth.

Kriffing horse.

Ben didn't bother to hide his amusement. "Have fun?"

The water had been his idea.

Chaz was wet, and somehow covered in straw, but he was also grinning like mad, so it balanced out.

Raven was indeed wet, her arms folded firmly over her now rather transparent blouse -- seriously, never wearing a white blouse to any class here ever again -- and a deeply unimpressed look on her face.

"You're mean," she said. "I lost, didn't I?"

"You're seventh," Ben said, "so...exactly average for the class today. Hi! What's your name?"

Yeah, Emily liked the simple-mindedness of this class.

She was also going to eye Anakin a bit, because.

Mercy was pretty tired after her run with the horse, but she made it back and followed the jester's directions to the check in.
