Improving Your Skills [Friday, 3rd Period]

When the students arrived in the Danger Shop today, they'd find the now-usual setup with targets, training dummies, and weapons, as well as a smiling Clint.

"Hey guys. It looks like we've reached the end of our class, and I just wanted to say it's been surprisingly fun teaching you," he said. "I don't really have a final for you, try not to be too disappointed. I'd like you all to write down one thing you think you learned in here, and then take however long you want to practice with the weapons. I have no doubt that you've improved at least a little since the beginning."

One thing you learned in the class.

Gert... hadn't been the biggest fan of this class. The fighting part of it had been hands-off enough that she hadn't really learned anything; it was hard to practice her skills when she hadn't had any to begin with, after all.

Or maybe she was just biased against the teacher for being an Avenger. Who could say?

So, without taking much time at all to think about her answer, she scrawled, Weapons are the only kind of skill that matters.

Really great attitude, Gert. A-plus.

Maddie's semester had pretty much meant spending Thursday in Ethics and realizing that maybe she was a terrible person, and then coming to this class and feeling like she didn't suck too much. She still hadn't figured out exactly what she was good at, though.

So she went with There's hope for me yet and thought that about covered it.

Emily wasn't entirely sure she had done much improvement in the class, although she supposed it had been a nice way to blow some steam. Thing was, she already did that in the past, although it now seemed to be part of her education. Oh well...

With enough creativity, everything's a weapon.

That was...optimistic?

This had been more of a refresher course for Stephanie than anything else, but in the spirit of pretending otherwise (stupid secret identities), she was going to answer as if it was all brand new.

That I am never going to be able to walk into a room again without mentally assessing all the furniture for how much damage it can possibly do. Even if only to someone's shins if they happen to trip over it chasing me while I flee like the wind.

There was a row of targets set up at varying distances along one of the walls, for anyone who preferred to fight from afar.

Still the best method of aggression management out there!

Who are both probably disappointed the class is over.

"Survived teaching," Natalie noted as she came over towards the end of class, having taken a few pretty successful shots at some of the targets. "Congratulations."

"Thanks. You survived high school." The 'so far' was going unspoken on Clint's part. "Congrats on that too."

"Graduation is in a week," Natalie pointed out. "And this is Fandom."

So, yes. Still plenty of time to not survive the high school experience.

"And since Fandom will be my base of operations for the summer too..."

"Oh good, you're not leaving right away?" Clint asked, letting himself sound genuinely happy about that. This was what he got for letting himself get attached to students. "Are you going to work or take more classes? Can you even do that?"

"Well, I've got some trips abroad in an official capacity lined up." Because if you could cram some diplomacy in your summer, why not? "But, apart from that, I'm either going to get a job in town, or another TA spot. Haven't really figured all that out yet."

"Want to help me run my archery class?" Clint offered. "It's gonna be pretty laid back, so I don't even know if I need a TA, but if I turn into a bird again, it might be good to have backup."

Natalie raised one eyebrow, mildly surprised. (Yes, that happened. Sometimes.) "Sure," she decided after a moment. "I come with dependable coffee-bringing references from Professor Lyman, and I can try and not be in Sudan on the day of class."

"Hey, Sudan would be a good excuse to miss things. It's a pretty cool place." If you were in the right places, of course. "And awesome. It'll be nice to have you."

"Haven't been, and don't know if it'll actually be on the agenda." It was just the example that had stuck with her. "But, that's settled then. Thank you."

"Mr. Barton, can you watch my cat while I practice with the weapons?" Stiles asked, lifting up a very grumpy looking cat up to Clint's eye level.

It was Derek, Clint. The cat was Derek. Which would explain the hissing.

"He's just being dramatic."

"Uh," Clint said, staring a little at the hissing. It wasn't that he didn't like cats, but dogs were just so much more friendly. "Sure, I can do that. Is there a reason he had to come with you?"

"Because he'd be bored just sitting around the house all day," Stiles said. "We've already established that he can't work the remote himself."

Though Derek might have had trouble with that before he became a cat.

"He's not going to try to eat my face, right? If he is, you should give him to Kate, or someone else." Clint was such a considerate teacher, really.

"I don't think he likes Kate much either." There was another hiss to confirm that. "But I don't think he'd try to eat your face. I just probably wouldn't actually hold him if I were you."

Clint leaned back a little more and nodded. "Good idea. I'll just... keep an eye on him and try to corral him." Surely Derek could behave for a little while in Clint's presence?

Ha, yeah right.

"Great, thanks! I just don't want him judging me while I handle weaponry," Stiles said, sitting Derek down by Clint's feet. "B-T-W that's Derek so I was completely serious about the not touching him thing."

Clint tried to school his expression, but he might have snickered a little before he could stop himself. "Definitely hands off now, don't worry," he said. "I won't let him judge you."

Best students ever! :D
