Flight- Monday- 3rd period

If Jaina had known what was going to happen this week- or if she'd clued in more than vaguely knowing something was up- the students would have a class in the Danger Shop. In the open. And it wouldn't be a team effort. Instead, they were back in the flight shed this week.

"So if you're flying, every once in a while you're going to run into a situation where you need to work with others," Jaina began. "It'll happen if you need instructions, if you're working in tandem with another person, if you're part of a squadron, whatever. So today we're going to run through a simulation from before my time, the Battle of Hoth. You're flying two-person snowspeeders, with a pilot facing the front and working the turbolasers, and a cargo manager facing the back, working with the harpoon and tow cables. Your job is to work together to defend a power generator against the enemy. Try not to fake kill anyone but them."

As far as Anakin was concerned nobody stickhandled like he did, thank you.

"Please, that's basic stuff," he scoffed. "All you have to do is shoot it where you want it to go. Unless that's too hard for you?"

"It's actually too easy for me," Topher countered. "I won't feel challenged. And since this is a class and I'm supposed to be learning..."

"How do you know it's too easy?" argued Anakin, because he was stubborn and also kind of entitled. "Have you even done it before?"

"I can't answer that and get my way without contradicting myself from forty seconds ago," Topher mused. That was unfortunate.

"Well, have you?" Anakin asked, raising both eyebrows. "Because I have."

Somewhere, two Tahiris were facepalming.

Topher decided to evade the question, like a boss. "Was it too hard for you?" he wanted to know. "Maybe you should do it since you have more experience."

"Please. I could do it in my sleep," Anakin scoffed. "Besides, if we don't want this to be over before we even start I think I should be in control since I know what I'm doing."

"Logic flaw!" Topher announced, way too loudly. "Logic flaw: detected. If you're really good at being a pilot and handling the gears and stuff, that's how it'll be over too fast." The not-dirty was strong with this conversation. "Really, it would prolong enjoyment for you to let me be in charge."

TOPHER.

"What are you, trying to be a droid?" Anakin asked. "Besides, just because I'm a good enough pilot to make it a really easy ride doesn't mean I don't know how to take my time."

Sorry, facepalming Tahiri. This wasn't going to get any better.

"Yeah, but isn't it always better as a learning experience?" Topher wanted to know. "Then there's excitement and passion and blah blah blah, crap like that. Which I could easily supply."

The truth was, Anakin just wanted to be in the cockpit. See that stubborn look on his face?

"I don't see why we can't take turns, but I want to go first."

SORRY, JAINA.

"Yeah, sure, but once you go, you'll probably be all, 'Oh, that was fun, the end,'" Topher countered, doing a very poor imitation of Anakin's voice. "That's what I would do."

YOU WOULD, TOO, TOPHER.

"I would not," Anakin insisted. "I'm all about being fair. Why shouldn't everyone get their fun?"

"Because the first person to have fun loses interest, duh," Topher said. "It's a scientific fact."

IT WAS A FACT ABOUT SEX, BOYS. STOP THIS.

"Maybe that's how you do it, but not me," Anakin grumbled. (Anakin, honey, you didn't even realize that the 'it' you didn't realize it sounded like you were talking about existed.) "Maybe I'm interested in making sure other people have fun, too."

Most of the time he wasn't, actually. Sorry to say.

YOU HEARD IT HERE FIRST, ENTIRE FLIGHT CLASS. ANAKIN SOLO: SELFISH LOVER.

"That's not very practical," Topher pointed out, "but in this case it seems to benefit my interests, so what the hell."

Well, it wasn't like anyone was ever going to know for real. OOPS.

"Fine," Anakin said snippily, since he'd been impatient to get behind the controls for about ever. "Strap in, we're going for a ride."

OOPS INDEED.

"Don't tell me what to do," Topher bitched, phenomenally pettily, as he climbed on into the speeder.

This was going to be a very long ride.
