Flight- Monday- 3rd period

The class was back in the Danger Shop today, which was set up to look a lot like the island on a normal day. But with the guy standing next to her that some people might recognize, that should probably be a sign that it wasn't a 100% normal class. The swoop bikes on display might have been another sign.

"Hey, guys," Jaina said. "Today's class isn't so much about flying, exactly, but we're all just going to have to deal with that. Today we're working with swoop bikes. And for this class, I'm going to toss this over to a guy who knows a little more about this subject than I do, Zayne Carrick."

"Hey, everyone," Zayne said. He was glad to have a couple days of leave so that he could actually be somewhere without being in uniform. "As you may know, Jaina and I are from the same galaxy but very different times. Back in my time, swoop racing is pretty much the biggest sport there is. And I've spent a large part of my life on Taris, where the majority of the swoops in the galaxy are made. So riding around on one of this is what my friends and I did all the time when we weren't studying or training."

Zayne continued, "If you're at all familiar with motorcycles, it's kind of like that, but much faster and it doesn't touch the ground. And if you're familiar with jets, it's also kind of like that, but much slower and without anything between you and the wind. So it's a lot of fun."

"So for today," Jaina said, "you guys are going to get on these and race around the island. From here around the outside of the island and back. Whoever wins... gets praise and adulation for the day."

Cade was really excited about this challenge and it showed. He glanced around the room, mentally assessing (and dismissing, for the most part, because his family were kind of giant flying snobs) everyone else's skills before hopping on the swoop bike, jammed the accelerator down and taking off around the island.

If he had his way, he'd wouldn't even tap the brake before he was finished.

Oh, hey, she actually had a ton of experience with something pretty similar! Granted, her bike generally didn't leave the ground, but it was still closer than most the things they'd been learning to work with here.

Karina took a few seconds to make sure the controls were close enough to what she was used to and then fearlessly accelerated and took off for the spin around the island.

It was fast.

Like really freaking fast. Too fast for Emily to actually feel entirely comfortable with it. Did that show though? Not at all.

Well, maybe a little.

"If we win, can we keep the biiike?"

God knows if anyone could hear the question as Ace zoomed away, but she couldn't not ask it. Because sod praise and adulation; she wanted one of these.

Victor thought this was amazing. He went a little slowly until he had the feel of the controls, but once he got that sorted he was off and ... swooping.

He couldn't beat the people who did this all the time, but he intended to try.

"Astral," Anakin blurted out, so excited that it was a miracle he didn't actually squeal like a little kid.

. . . and then, without even bothering to look over the swoop's controls very much (because look at his genetics), he immediately climbed on and took off at top speed. Yes, he was completely showing off.

He wouldn't argue if anyone tried to race him.

If anyone wanted in-depth instruction or some pointers, Zayne was there to help out after work. Or if anyone wanted to see how he was doing after a few months away from Fandom, he was available for that, too.

"Pretty good," Zayne said. "The war's... getting worse, really, but I think my group's doing some good. I'm not exactly starting a widespread peace movement the way I'd like, but I don't really expect to. How about you? Any good invasions since I left?"

"When you say 'dead people,' do you mean zombies again?" Zayne asked. "I just have to check."

"I think I'd prefer the flesh eating. The last time I saw that here, it was less potentially traumatic than this sounds," Zayne said. Sure, he could probably get some closure if it happened to him. But what if it were Celeste? Or Snout? The people he utterly failed? He wasn't sure he was strong enough for that.

"I'm not completely sure that's really a bright side, but I guess it's close enough to go along with it," Zayne joked.

Re: Talk to the Wonder Twins

[identity profile] cataclysmicluck.livejournal.com 2013-03-26 02:08 am (UTC)(link)
"I can accept that," Zayne said. "Me, I'm going to stay very positive and hope it doesn't happen again at all. Or at least that I'll miss it again."

Re: Talk to the Wonder Twins

[identity profile] cataclysmicluck.livejournal.com 2013-03-26 02:22 am (UTC)(link)
"Well, my personal history says that I'll always get some kind of closure. Not necessarily the way you'd expect, and definitely not with the dead coming back to life. But things always come together eventually," Zayne mused.

[identity profile] cataclysmicluck.livejournal.com 2013-03-26 03:06 am (UTC)(link)
"I've come to terms with it. Which was going to have to happen eventually anyway," Zayne half-joked.
