Public Speaking [Tuesday, March 19, 2013, 1st period]

Today's Danger Shop was full of the bright lights and cameras of a television news show.

"Hi there," Josh said, looking up from where a shop-generated makeup artist was putting foundation on his face. "You guys have gotten pretty good at talking in front of each other, so it's now time to up the stakes." He waved his hand around. "Welcome to television. You're going to get made up and stuffed into appropriate attire and then you'll be on Capitol Beat to talk about the issues of the day--specifically the squirrel news strike. Please try to come up with three coherent points to make and then try to to get a word in edgewise--the other ~~moddable~~ hosts can talk."

He glanced down at his notes. "Oh, and when we're done, our press secretary is Jace Wayland. Congratulations, kid."

Sparkle wrinkled his nose, but he went along with the makeover, throwing his two cents in here and there about what colours went best with his complexion.

Why he bothered getting dressed in the mornings some days was beyond him.

Really? Gert had purple hair. She was pretty sure she wasn't going to be made to look professional anytime soon.

She endured, though. Painfully.

Minako was going to be an idol, thank you very much, if she didn't end up on a pro volleyball team first. She could handle stylists.

They were allowed to take out her bow in exchange for a complicated series of braids into an updo, and Minako felt she looked very mature, but she drew the line when they wanted to repaint over her bright red nails something more 'earth toned.'

You may manage to shove her into a suit that isn't bright and cheery, but Minako won't give up her spots of color without a fight.

Tessa would love this, Richie was sure. And Mac would be trying not to laugh. Richie was just going to have to make sure there was no photographic evidence to send to them.

Or stare blankly into the camera and forget completely about opening your mouth. It can happen.

"The squirrels are striking because their working conditions were unsatisfactory," Gert declared, immediatey taking the pro-squirrel point because Josh hadn't clearly assigned them a side to defend. "Contracts with sentient animals need to be honored just as contracts with humans do. If it's a matter of a rum shortage on the island, then someone needs to go off the island and physically get more rum. It's as simple as that."

With that, she crossed her arms over her chest, feeling that that was a good enough end as any, even if she wasn't sure if that counted as three whole points.

"Now we'll take some calls," she added.

Jace didn't know much about glitter but he'd answer your questions as best he could.

"Okay, related to the squirrels--shouldn't their replacements be, oh, I don't, something with opposable thumbs?" Josh demanded. "Or robots or something?"

"The squirrels seemed to be doing a fine job without their opposable thumbs, and I don't believe we should be judging reporters on whether they have thumbs or not," Jace said. "Seems like a nice way to get sued by some kind of union."

"Glitter," Natalie started, because it was right there in the OCD, and also it was a better topic than 'how do you get black marker off your skin?' "There have been reports of not enough of it being used at school functions to meet the yearly quota. Your thoughts, Mr. Wayland?"

"If people want more glitter they should provide it themselves," Jace said. "The school administration has more important responsibilities that take precedent."

It doesn't have to be related to glitter.

Of course it had to be related to glitter, Lex was one of the TAs.

Natalie would rather talk about things that weren't glitter, yes.

But, sigh, she was also available for glitter-related talk, if absolutely necessary.

Day two of...some amount...of workers in my house. Ugh.
