Fandom Invasions: A Survival Guide- Friday, Period One
"This week, I'm rearranging my syllabus slightly in order to give you something hands-on to do before break," Jono announced as he kicked off the start of class. The Danger Shop today was set up to look like the outside of the dorms in the summertime. And, for effect (or else because the Danger Shop thought it was being cute), it was raining. "And because the next three topics I've written on it seem to go hand-in-hand, we'll be covering aspects of certain former reserve groups on the island when we all get back from our respective wanderings."
Some of you would probably be having a more enjoyable time than others. Breaks tended to go like that.
"This week, we'll be covering the importance of defensive strategy, of finding a safe place to hunker down and making bloody certain that it remains safe. Now, if any of you know about the safehouses on the island, the obvious options here would be the dorms, and Caritas. These places are hardly a sure bet, of course, particularly where the fabric of reality is concerned. I might've mentioned in a previous class that I was snatched clean from my bed in the dorms one night by a rip in reality and deposited neatly in a place straight from nightmares. And the dorms and Caritas both at one point ceased to exist at all when we were forced to retreat into Special Collections. Situations like that, no amount of hunkering down and preparing will prevent."
Of course he had coffee. Of course he was taking a mouthful of it before pressing on.
"This week, I'm talking about the physical threats. The goblins and zombies and angry walking mushrooms and killer bloody tomatoes that can be kept out with a barricade. Students who were here even before my time made use of this strategy once, building up a barricade at the dormitory gate and holding their ground there in order to protect the dorms from their own peers turned zombie. We won't be using zombies this week - I can hardly stand the smell of the group at Caritas as it is - but we will be following the lead those students set. In twenty minutes, we'll be overrun by an alot stampede. Simply locking the gate will not keep them out. These things are large, and they'll make short work of the gate itself if that's all that's there once they reach it. Those who can, start setting up furniture and whatever else you can lift around the base of the gate to fortify it. Anyone who can't lift as much can assist by looking for weak points in the barricade's structure, or running ahead through other rooms in the dorms, looking for pieces of furniture that were missed. The aim is to get this done thoroughly, and quickly. I suggest not standing under windows, because anybody who thinks that they'll be using the stairs for this while other people are rushing up and down them is mad."
A rumble started up in the distance. The alot stampede had begun.
"Get to it, hm?"

Lecture!
One of the common rooms might even have coffee.
Re: Lecture!
She listened to the professor but, truthfully, she was more interested in trying to decide about the rain.
Re: Lecture!
Except maybe about her hair dripping all over her face, so there was a brief run to grab a fake newspaper from the fake lobby to hold over her real head, before she returned to listen to Jono
rambletalk about barricades.Barricade!
Aren't you glad Jono skipped over first aid and other things the old support reserves used to do, this week? The alots are coming! Now get to it!
Re: Barricade!
If it was meant to happen, it would and if it wasn't, it wouldn't.

Re: Barricade!
She'd be right back with an armchair carried over her head. You might want to look out below.
Talk to the TA!
Jono isn't apologizing.
Re: Talk to the TA!
Now she was soaked, wearing many, many sodden layers, and expected to haul things. Bad show, Jono. Bad show.
Talk to Jono!
Yep.
