Flight- Monday- 3rd period

As it turned out, Jaina had really needed a week away. Not only was she in a better mood than she had been in recent weeks, but it had also influenced today's class.

The students were back in the flight shed today, and with some simulated firepower at their hands, hopefully it'd keep them happy for a week. "Today we're working with the clawcraft. It's another ship from my galaxy, mostly associated with an alien race called the Chiss. You sit in a ball cockpit, with curved wings around you, and you've got four cannons to work with. They're not as fast as some of the other things we've done, but it's got good maneuverability and can be fun if you're into that sort of thing."

She gave them a quick tutorial on how to work these ships, and then said, "You're going to be dogfighting against another one of these things. You're squaring off against trained pilots, so if you're not quick learning these things, you might have a little bit of trouble. And if you're into competition, you can go ahead and see if you can beat my scores." Which were definitely lower than Jag's. Which she knew currently because her boyfriend went ahead and bought his own simulator.

Sorry. She still wasn't over that.

Once Ace got over the general oh-my-god-awesome reaction to the alien feel of the swept-forward wings, she did better than she expected to. Because she wasn't as distracted by speed as she'd been with the X-wing, she got a better handle on trying to maneuver and shoot at the same time. She wasn't going to come anywhere near Jaina's score, but not bad at all for an Earth kid from 1986.

Cade had stolen a lot of ships back home, but never a Chiss one, so it took him a little bit of time to get used to the controls.

The cannons he had no problems with. He ended the sim with a time surprisingly close to Jaina's and no ammo left at all.

Emily was starting to figure that these kind of things were surprisingly good to vent all the anger she usually kept very, very, very deep into herself.

What she found more surprising was that she did pretty good, although she was no starship fighter by any means.

One person's "good maneuverability" was another's "touchy handling". Bucky worked his controls with a heavy paw, and it only took a few seconds for frantic oversteering to turn into the fighter careening out of control, spinning on all three axes.

Like his flights in all of the other vehicles they'd tried, Bucky got an impressive score -- impressively low, that is.
