Public Speaking [Tuesday, February 5, 1st period]

Today they were meeting in the Danger Room, which, after some finessing, had been made to look like a dive bar in Georgetown. Not that Josh had ever spent time hitting on college girls while he was in the White House.

He had hit on grad students. It was much less creepy.

"Hope you worked on being persuasive this last week," he said, "because this is the true test--you have thirty seconds, maybe--to make an impression good enough that the other person isn't going to get bored or annoyed."

That's right folks, you're working on your pick-up lines. Who said class wasn't useful?

"Start up conversations with as many people as possible. Person with the most phone numbers at the end of the time gets extra credit," Josh replied. "You have half of class to do it, and then--" he pounded on the bar in a drumroll imitation, "Natalie Adams is our press secretary today. You are also my TA. Try not to bring shame upon me."

For the record, this made Natalie a lot less uncomfortable than the first half of the class.

She took her place, looking calm and ready to deal with whatever ridiculous stuff her classmates decided to throw at her.

[Once more with feeling: I've had no internets at home for the past 24 hours so, and no idea whether things will be back to normal when I get home today. So it may take a while for me to get to answering BUT I WILL GET TO IT, OMG.]

"Ms Adams, what do you say to the rumours that someone's been secretly replacing the island's coffee with Folgers Crystals?" Because he couldn't lob her an easy one now, could he?
whenshewasnice: (A place for me.)

Natalie hadn't had a visitor, either, and she was fine with that.

She had enough going on as it was.

"Ms Adams, reports say that the President only knows pi to five digits," Jessica said. "Can you confirm or deny this poor example of nerdery?"

Sparkle figured he kind of had a built-in advantage in this situation. After all, chicks were totally into gay guys, right?

Not that he was particularly into them, but that did seem to be how it went, anyhow. He smirked a little, and then looked around for someone to try to pick up. Hopefully they wouldn't be too disappointed when he put them down again.

"Ms. Adams! Rumour says that they're planning on paving Paradise to put up a parking lot! Any opinions on this rumour, and can you confirm or deny the truth behind it?"

Sparkle had been listening to 70s Canadian folk-rock that morning, so sue him.

Oh, Gert was scowling so hard. Look at her hanging off to the side and crossing her arms and being generally ragey.

It was unlikely that Gert was getting any numbers.

Kate was in a stupidly bad mood, but it wasn't like she hadn't been dealing with 'society' since she was little and taking etiquette classes. So she flashed a practiced smile and gave it a try.

What about what about it? Who knew.

Jessica's preferred line was, "I bet I know more digits of pi than you." The two people who seemed intrigued by this were put off when she could prove that she did know more digits than them.

She ended the class without any numbers.

Richie was quite charming when he put his mind to it. Of course, Richie's charm was well-suited to teenage girls of the early 90s and didn't translate perfectly to teenage girls of 2013. Oops?
