Adventures in the basement..

After finishing her homework, and meeting with her new roommate, Duce decided to go on a gremlin hunt. She'd had a request to procure another gremlin, preferably a live one.

That could present a challenge. She wasn't used to keeping creatures alive. However, boredom reigned, and there was a possibility of earning some ready cash by selling the creatures as lab specimens.

She made a mental note of things she thought she'd need: fileting gloves, facemask, heavy canvas work overalls.. a trip to the local MegaMart would take care of most of that.

Duce had a vague thought of asking her new roommate along. Wednesday seemed like the type of girl who'd really appreciate a place like the basement. Perhaps there were others who'd like to go. Duce had heard about a group that wanted to go on a kill-hunt for the creatures, but killing things was so passe. No challenge to it, really. Catching them sounded like more fun.

Blowing an errant snake off her face, Duce smirks, "It's a highschool cafeteria. Of course they have roaches the size of dogs. It'd be breaking an immutable law of the universe, otherwise. Reality as we know it could collapse inward and destroy us all." Scratching her chin, she adds, "Wait, didn't that happen last week? Our bad. We're hunting gremlins today. Caught one last night, but we had a request for a live one."

"Oooooh," Chihaya said, not really understanding. "I've never seen a gremlin but I bet they are in the kitchen too."

Duce grins and asks, "Ah, but are they loose in the kitchen, or are they an ingredient? If they're loose, they're fair game. If they're an ingredient.. well, we won't be eating at school anytime soon anyway, but we'd feel sorry for the rest of you poor bas..uh..kids."

Kiki bites her lip worriedly.

Wednesday shrugged, extending her arms, which were full of equipment. "Arm yourselves, then. I don't have quite enough for everyone, but it should do. If we can catch more than one, I'd like one myself."

Kiki thinks a little, and says, "Handy thing about brooms...you can hit things with them.

"Just what will you do with it once you have it, though?"

"Venom extraction." Wednesday tipped her head thoughtfully. "I've heard that they are hallucinogenic."

Chihaya picked out a couple of choice things, including the net. He wasn't very good with weapons and after gouging himself really badly one time and Kagetsuya chiding him for days afterward, Chihaya opted to stay away from them altogether. "What are you going to do with it? Is it for a biology or something?"

"We hit the MegaMart today, so we have some equipment too."

Duce dons her own equipment, which looks to be a pair of chainmaille gloves and a welder's lexan mask. A pair of leather pants is pulled out of the backpack and donned. Her leather jacket would probably be proof enough against gremlin teeth. She waits for Wednesday to kit up.

Nodding at Wednesday's explanation, Duce gestures at her hair, "We have some experience with venom extraction." Pausing, she responds to Chi's question, "You could say it was a biology experiment, yes."

"Venom?" Kiki squeaks, her voice jumping an octave. "I think I need a bigger broom."

"That might be a wise idea," Wednesday agreed, pulling on a pair of heavy leather gauntlets herself. "I found one of Aunt Esmeralda's old gardening outfits," she explained, gesturing to her own very long, heavy looking leather jacket. It had more than one set of scorch marks on it, and a set of claw marks across the back that showed metal beneath.

She was wearing almost thigh high boots beneath it and they showed similar marks as she buttoned the coat closed. Fishing what looked like a beekeeper's hat out of the mess (if you kept bees that were armed and the size of small terriers) she donned it and flexed her fingers. "I'm ready."

Duce admires the hat for a moment, "We definitely need to get ourselves one of those!"

Nodding politely to Kiki, "We'll be in the caf when you're ready."

Snakes writhing in anticipation, Duce stuffs any extra gear into her backpack and heads toward the cafeteria.

"I think I'll borrow supplies from the kitchen as we go," Kiki answers. She hops on her broom and hovers about 4 feet off the ground. "Ready."

"Well," Kiki says hesitantly, "I don't really have much other than what I'm wearing right here. So much for armor. I'm as ready as i could be, I guess. What's the plan? Scare the gremlins towards you and Duce and Chihaya so you can net them? I could do that."

"Our bad. We thought you meant you had a larger broom. Yeah, if you could scare them toward us, as well as knock them off anything they may climb up on, that would help. We can probably handle the ones on the ground. Although, if you could grab another net somewhere, you could swoop in and scoop them up."

Snapping her fingers, Duce swore under her breath, "We knew we forgot something. Containment. Suggest we go in through the back of the caf and appropriate some garbage cans."

"It's a kitchen," Kiki says confidently, "There has to be another broom in there somewhere - and who knows what else! If Chihaya could stand ready with the garbage can lids - um, how do we ensure that the lids stay on?"

In answer, Duce rummages in her backpack, producing a roll of duct tape, the ends slightly coated in fuzz.

I think I'm going to transfer this to a new post in my journal, if that's agreeable with everyone? I'll write up a synopsis of what's happened so far. Anyone want to get last poses in before the synops?

Chihaya eyed the getups the girls put on and shook his head. "I think I'm moral support and the trap springer," he said shaking the net.

"You could find a container for any that we catch," Wednesday told him, moving slowly under the weight of her protective gear. "That would be tremendously useful."

"I can do that." Chihaya took the duct tape and tucked the net under his arm and taking mental inventory.

Net, tape, garbage can with lid, be the trapper while they chase it toward him. Satisfied, he trotted off behind them toward the cafeteria.

"That works. Nets... tape... garbage can cages. Check. Let's go!" Kiki follows to the cafeteria.
