The students were in the Danger Shop again today, and anyone who wondered what they were doing today got their answer in the form of the helicopter on the landing pad behind Jaina.

"No weapons again today. You're all gonna have to suck that up," Jaina said, but she smiled a little when she said that. "This, for those of you who don't know, is a helicopter. From this planet, and they fly very differently than planes. For one thing, it gets vertical lift, which means you can go from a standing position and go straight up, or you can hover in place, rather than needing to gain momentum. It also handles entirely differently."

Because of that, she gave them a little primer on how to actually work the controls, and said, "So you've got two options. If you're not entirely sure about this thing, you can take it up and fly around at your leisure. Try not to fly into any buildings. For those of you looking for a bit more of a challenge, there's going to be a car chase going on in the streets behind me. You're going to take this thing up and follow it around, through all its crazy twists and turns, as much as you can. If there aren't any questions, who wants to go first?"

This was Cade attempting to sneak out past Jaina.

Yeah, good luck with that.

"It'd have been easier to just not show up," she pointed out.

"The helicopter made me regret my attempt at being a good student," Cade admitted.

"It's flight class. Your odds of dealing with something loud and annoying were really very good," Jaina said.

"I wasn't really thinking clearly," Cade said. "Anyway, see you next week."

Good try, Cade.

"So I met your visitor," she said.

It wasn't like she'd dismissed him from class anyway.

That was not a nice word in Huttese, Cade.

"Of course you karking did."

"You say that like it's a bad thing," she said dryly.

"He's supposed to be dead, not bother my teachers!"

Relatives. Something like that.

"He didn't bother me. In fact, it was informative."

Yep.

Cade immediately looked cagey. Er.

"Oh?"

"He didn't say anything I didn't already sort of suspect," she admitted.

That bad feeling just grew worse. "That I'm really a sweet kid if you get to know me?" he asked sardonically.

"Something like that," she said, since she didn't want to say it outright in class. "So why didn't you say anything?"

"Because when Dad died, his friends didn't exactly loop back to see how I was," Cade said. "It's not healthy to be...entirely me...at home."

"And here?" she wondered.

"Never hurts to be cautious," said the deathstick addict.

"So I shouldn't tell the squirrels?" she said lightly.

It wasn't like she didn't know Sia was cautious, too.

"Spend a lot of your spare time talking to rodents?" Cade asked.

"We have a history, the squirrels and me," she said. "Look, if you don't feel safe about it, I'm not going to go blabbing to everyone. But this is also a place you can let your guard down a little. I'm sure there are people who'd like to know about you."
