Cheerleading Tryouts - The Gym, Friday After Classes

Loki was more than a bit excited to start this club up. Because it would grant him power over people. As Student Council did very little to allow him to boss people around other than for dances.

So...

"Greetings, those who wish to become cheerleaders! I am Loki and this is Jessica. We will be judging you today." Judging you so much.

"We may not know the first thing about cheerleading, but it's not like that kept us from restarting the squad in the first place," Jessica said, doing her best to set the bar low. "We also only have one sports team, and I'm not even sure who they play against. But again, not stopping us. Such is the power of cheerleading." She sounded very convinced.

They were a former genocidal villain and the cross-gender clone of Spider-Man. They could do anything. "It is lacrosse. There are sticks," Loki informed her helpfully. "I have learned from Wikipedia, that this involves cheering and gymnastics. So, we ask that you give us an example of both things."

Try it in iambic pentameter. He dared you.

"If you want to use pom-poms for either portion, we found the squad's old equipment and dusted it off, so you don't have to worry about making yourself sneeze in the middle of spelling something," Jessica said. "Unless you're allergic to spelling, in which case what are you even doing in a school?"

"...right." Loki was judging your quips in preparation of the potential cheerleaders, Jessica. "So, we hope to see your best. And if you did not sign up at the club fair, we are still taking all those who are interested."

Minako was actually pretty darn good at tumbling, and did a moderately-difficult run of cartwheels and flips before landing at the end and doing a very enthusiastic "GO GREMLINS!" to finish it off.

Fear the enthusiastic blonde. Fear.

"Oh wow, you may actually be qualified to do this," Jessica said once Minako was done. "I wasn't sure how many really qualified people we'd get."

"Yeah, cheerleading is gross," Gert shared when it came to be her turn. Shared this with the cheerleaders, yes. "But I was told snacks might be a part of this process--" wrong-- "and it seems like this gym is better-heated than my room, so."

She scuffed the floor with her shoe, sighed dramatically, and lazily thrust one fist in the air. "Go team."

Yay! Did she do cheerleading?

"Just so you know, the bake sale will be cancelled if you make a point to insult cheerleading during the meetings," Jessica said. "We're not asking for much here."
arsenicmauls: (!!: wtf do you want then?)

Re: Cheer!

[personal profile] arsenicmauls 2013-01-26 01:59 am (UTC)(link)
"I was thinking of 'gross' as kind of a neutral word," Gert clarified. "No more 'gross.' Got it."

Re: Cheer!

[identity profile] craftyladyparts.livejournal.com 2013-01-26 02:01 am (UTC)(link)
"You have an interesting definition of 'neutral,'" Jessica said. "Also, there are not 144 of us."

"Sorry. I needed to make that joke." Neeeeerd.
arsenicmauls: (conv: nice to meet you)

Re: Cheer!

[personal profile] arsenicmauls 2013-01-26 02:05 am (UTC)(link)
"You're telling me," Gert said. "This is a real haven for any potential cheerleaders with performance anxiety."

Because there were like five people here.

Jessica was a little disappointed that the pun went completely unremarked upon, but that wasn't going to get her down. "It just means we've weeded out the people who aren't serious about it," Jessica said. "Okay, that's not true, but let me have my misguided beliefs."

Sorry, Jess. Perils of being the nerdiest member of this weird, weird cheerleading squad.

"You're asking me to not raise my eyebrows in response to the idea that Loki takes anything seriously, ever."

Just checking!

Re: Cheer!

[identity profile] craftyladyparts.livejournal.com 2013-01-26 02:25 am (UTC)(link)
"I would never ask that. I'm just asking that you let me believe that you're raising your eyebrows because your nose is itchy and you don't want to go crazy scratching it," Jessica said.
arsenicmauls: (conv: for your information)

Re: Cheer!

[personal profile] arsenicmauls 2013-01-26 02:28 am (UTC)(link)
"I don't make stuff up for just anyone," Gert warned, but when she let her eyebrows shoot up, she dutifully deadpanned, "Ow. My nose."

Itching didn't usually inspire 'Ow's, but she was close.

Sparkle's idea of cheering mostly involved a lot of bouncing. That kind of was what cheerleading was about, right? That, and tiny uniforms, and annoying cheer numbers. To his credit, he didn't actually try any acrobatics that he couldn't handle, though there were a few enthusiastic cartwheels interspersed with some rhythmic clapping.

And, you know, the mandatory cheer itself.

"You might be good at basketball
You might be good at track
But when it comes down to lacrosse
You might as well step back!
Go Gremlins!"

He had managed to pare all swear words he wanted to use out of the cheer. That was impressive.

[identity profile] craftyladyparts.livejournal.com 2013-01-26 02:31 am (UTC)(link)
"Very nice, Sparkle," Jessica said. "And, actually, that's not a bad cheer. Mind if we use it in the future?"
myownface: (Throwin' Crap.)

Re: Cheer!

[personal profile] myownface 2013-01-26 02:44 am (UTC)(link)
Sparkle shot Jessica a grin. Compliments! He'd take 'em. He hadn't even busted out the sparklers he had been thinking of using for this tryout, so... score.

"Nah, I don't mind," he replied with a shrug. "I switched around something I found on the internet for it, anyhow. Pretty sure the faculty would have issues with the kind of cheers I'd make up."

Re: Cheer!

[identity profile] craftyladyparts.livejournal.com 2013-01-26 02:53 am (UTC)(link)
"... This is apparently a terrible idea, but I have to ask, what kind of cheers would you make up?" Jessica asked, preparing herself for the worst.
myownface: (Intense)

Re: Cheer!

[personal profile] myownface 2013-01-26 03:09 am (UTC)(link)
"We're literally cheering on a sport that's name translates to 'the stick,'" Sparkle mused, smirking. "There is so much innuendo in that alone. Guys out on the field, sweating and jumping on one another. You know, it used to be a combat exercise? Kind of like a three-day spiritual sports-orgy played by hundreds of guys all at once."

And you better believe that Sparkle's cheer would have reflected that.

"... Either that, or it would've been like a three minute cheer about how lacrosse is Canada's real national sport, suck it America."

Sparkle was so charming.

Re: Cheer!

[identity profile] craftyladyparts.livejournal.com 2013-01-26 03:14 am (UTC)(link)
"You know a lot more about lacrosse than I do," Jessica said. "And is that true about Canada? I always assumed it was hockey. Maybe curling."
myownface: (Smirky)

Re: Cheer!

[personal profile] myownface 2013-01-26 03:20 am (UTC)(link)
"Totally lacrosse," Sparkle confirmed, shrugging. "In the summertime, anyhow. Hockey's the national winter sport. Lacrosse is the first one our government made official and then they decided that it was going to have to share the position after, I dunno, Gretzky or something."

A beat.

"And curling is the one that's just really fun to get drunk to while making 'hurry hard' jokes."

Re: Cheer!

[identity profile] craftyladyparts.livejournal.com 2013-01-26 03:24 am (UTC)(link)
"That actually explains a lot," Jessica said. "Anyway, no, you're right, we're not using any cheers you write. We'd get disbanded quickly."
myownface: (O Rly?)

Re: Cheer!

[personal profile] myownface 2013-01-26 03:49 am (UTC)(link)
"Right, then," Sparkle laughed. "We can spare the lacrosse team the history lesson. Anyhow, I do all of my writing while drunk. That's not where my best material comes from or anything."

Maddie had no best moves. She was doing this mainly because it sounded like she wouldn't be a total oddball and at least one person would probably be worse than her no matter what, so.

So after a moment of trying to figure out what she was supposed to do here, there was a "....Go, team!" and then a "Woo!" to make it seem like she was enthusiastic when in actuality she wanted to facepalm.

Re: Cheer!

[identity profile] craftyladyparts.livejournal.com 2013-01-26 03:25 am (UTC)(link)
"It was enthusiastic enough for me. Good job," Jessica said.
