Improving Your Skills [Friday, 3rd Period]

Clint was still a little nervous about running this class, but he'd spent enough time listening to the radio this week that he at least had an idea of what to do today. So, when the students came into the classroom, he was perched on the desk, looking as relaxed as he could manage.

"Hey guys," he said, once everyone was there. "My name's Clint Barton, and this is Improving Your Skills. If you're in the wrong place... well, feel free to stay 'cause I don't really care about that, and you can call me Mr. Barton if that's more comfortable for you, but I won't mind if you call me Clint either." Really, he felt old enough without all of you helping, thanks.

"Anyone who's been here for more than a few days has probably figured out that this school and this town are filled with people who have special powers," he continued, "and I figure at least some of you come from places where folks running around with abilities is totally normal. Some of you might even have powers of your own. But I think everyone is capable of doing something awesome, and it doesn't have to involve super strength or something supernatural. All it takes is figuring out what you want to get good at, and living long enough to get good at it. So, that's what we're going to be doing in here."

"Now that I've given you my little spiel, I think the custom is that it's your turn to do some talking. I know you're probably all tired of introducing yourselves, but that's what you get for taking a class at the end of the week." He was so polite sometimes, really. "I want to know your names, where you're from, and at least one thing you think you're really good at. If you've got some kind of ability, don't tell me about that, because there's got to be more to you than that. I was told I get to have a TA, so that's going to be Kate Bishop--" Sorry Kate, that was what apparent bow-stealers got. "--but I'll go ahead and start. I'm Clint Barton, I'm from New York, and I can say with zero modesty that I'm the world's greatest marksman. Who wants to go next?"

"My name's Sholeh Zeela a Zhahar," she said when it was her turn. "I'm from a landscape in Ephemera, which is another world, I guess."

In case the clothing and the name 'Ephemera' hadn't given it away. Also, she wasn't sharing she was from a place called Tryadnea. That just sounded a little too close for comfort.

"I'm really good with books," she finished, though a little awkwardly. Was that a skill? "I love reading and I'm usually good about remembering what I've learned, or at least remembering roughly where I learned it from."

Maddie decided she hated introductions, especially since she didn't know what she was good at, aside from disappearing. That was kind of why she was in the class, and now she knew for sure that she definitely wasn't good at thoroughly reading course descriptions.

"My name's Maddie Berry, most recently from New York, and I'm good at..." She paused, trying to think of something she'd excelled at over the last year or so. "...getting into trouble?"

Nice start, Maddie. Brilliant.

"I'm Kate Bishop" was the introduction. It wasn't quite 'I'm Chuck Bass,' but Kate thought it worked for her. "I'm from New York."

She smirked as she considered the third topic carefully. "I play the cello."

What? Had to change things up.

"So, my name is Sparkle," and he was actually past that point where he'd give people dirty looks just to be certain they wouldn't laugh at his name. Screw 'em if they did. "I'm from Toronto, Ontario, Canada, but I suck at hockey and can't ride a moose to save my life."

Just in case people were curious.

"And I have yet to meet someone that can pick a lock as fast as I can."

Because being up-front about one's juvenile delinquency was an excellent way to start a semester, and you shut your face.

"I'm Gert Yorkes," Gert said. "I'm from LA, and I'm good at following the news, I guess."

It was weird how long it'd taken her to come up with something to say there.

"William Murdoch," he introduced himself. "I was living in Montreal before I came here, and I suppose one could say I'm good at learning new things on my own." Which was a polite way of saying he'd long surpassed what most of his teachers back home had been able to teach him.

"I'm Stiles and I'm from Beacon Hills, California," he started. "And I'm pretty sure I'm good at researching. And telling people when they're stupid. And I take blows to the head remarkably well. Not dirty."

Chaz hated this part of class and looked like he really wanted to fold himself into his chair. "I'm Chaz - uh, Charlies officially, but Chaz, please? Um, I'm Chaz Villette, I'm from Vegas, and I'm good with numbers."

"I'm Emily Thorne, I'm from...well, I've been moving a lot so let's just say 'a world that looks a lot like this' and I'm good at talking to people."

Specially if she was going to take something from them/ruin them in the long run.

"My name is Ryan Clark. I grew up all over the world, but El Salvador, Kenya, and New York City are the two places I spent the most time," she said. "And I seem to be pretty good at dealing with sick people."

"Hai!" Minako bounced out of her seat to bow to the rest of the class. "I'm Minako Aino, from Tokyo. And I'm really really good at volleyball and other athletics. Hajimemashite!"

"I'm Hanna Marin," she said. "I'm from Rosewood, Pennsylvania. And...I guess I'm good with fashion related things."

Really, it was a useful skill!
