There Will Be Cake [Tuesday, Period Three]

Bond had his class meet him in the Danger Shop, which was set up to look like a large kitchen with enough workbenches for the entire class.

"Good afternoon, class," he greeted them when they finished arriving. "I'm Professor Bond and welcome to there will be cake, which as you might have guessed from both the name and description is a cookery class. In addition to teaching you some of the basics of various forms of cooking, we'll also be attempting some more complicated dishes by the end of the semester, but more on that later, first we shall be doing introductions, so I would like your name, class, your favourite dish and one which you might like to learn to make."

Once introductions were done with, Bond continued. "Now, given that I promised you cake, we'll be starting out this week with a simple tea cake, the recipe, ingredients, and the equipment needed are out on the benches, so find a partner and get to baking."

Name, class, favourite food, one you'd like to make.

"I'm Jim and I'm a junior," he said once it was his turn. "My favorite food? If it's edible, I'll eat it. I'm not picky. Something I'd like to learn to make? Cookies."

Definitely cookies.

Bond was maybe starting to see a flaw in asking teenage boys their favourite kinds of food. "Any particular type of, Jim?"

"Chocolate chip's the easy answer," Jim replied, shrugging. "But, peanut butter? Oatmeal? I can get with those too."

"My name is Ryan Clark, I'm a senior, and my favorite food is something we used to get when my family lived in El Salvador. It's called a pupusa de queso and it's pretty much a corn tortilla stuffed with cheese," said Ryan. "But it's a pretty simple thing. One thing I'd like to be able to make, actually, is an omelet without it falling apart in the pan."

Bond nodded. "Omelettes are on the list of dishes we'll be covering." Though a decent number of them were likely to turn into scrambled eggs.

"I'm Jeremy Darling, and I... like food?"

Yeah, that was about as specific as it was going to get with him.

"There's this one thing I really like, but, uh... Can I text the cook back home and ask what it's called?"

Bond...did not sigh. Best poker face in the British intelligence serve here, people. "Go ahead."

Jeremy, oblivious to anything sighworthy, nodded and got his phone out, and poked at it for a moment.

Then he looked up sheepishly. "... Uh, I don't actually have his number."

Rilla still hated this part of the school year, especially with a teacher so handsome.

"I'm Rilla Blythe," she said, enunciating carefully so she didn't lisp, "I'm a junior, and my favourite food is anything Susan's making, but especially her pies. I want to learn how to make cream puffs. I tried over the holiday but they came out flat as flukes."

"We may have time for those kind of pastries later in the semester." So everyone could blame Rilla if he decided to inflict a croquembouche on them.

"I'm Sholeh Zeela a Zhahar," she said with a small wave. "I'm a sophomore, and I've really come to love spicy foods since I arrived here."

=We haven't,= Zeela grumbled. =Because when it comes out the other--=

::SHUT UP::

Red-faced for no apparent reason, Sholeh continued, "I'm not sure what I'd like to learn to cook. Is learning everything okay?"

She was mostly in this class because Zhahar had begged.

"We haven't quite got time for everything," Bond said with a smile. "But we can make a start on it."

"Richie Ryan, senior, burgers, and uh, I dunno. I can't do anything fancy, so something I can impress people with?"

"James, a senior here now. I have a fondness for pies, apple is best. I'd like to learn how to make one."

Find a partner and try your hand at cake making.

Jim knew a lot of stuff but one area he didn't know a lot about? Cooking. So, he hoped his partner was a ringer or something or else this cake was gonna be an experience.

Who may have gone light on the lecture to see what would happen when you started cooking.
