SCIENCE! Club, Monday After Classes

Another Monday, another Science Club meeting in the Danger Shop, where one of the club leaders had ever-so-thoughtfully programmed the walls to display clouds to get people into the theme for the day. In a twist that was unlikely to come as a surprise to anyone who knew Topher and had spotted him at all over the course of the weekend, that theme was flying.

"So," Topher said when everyone had arrived, "this weekend, with the switching powers, I wound up with this random flying ability where I could just kind of levitate without anything about my body being different or using any tools or whatever. And flying is awesome, you know, obviously, but it sort of wasn't very scientific? So I thought today we could work on other ways you could enable flight that actually make sense."

That was where the lab, which was even more well-stocked than usual, was going to come in handy, see.

"I have a jetpack," Evan offered, smiling and bouncing on his toes. "It's actually pretty compact, it fits under my clothing and you can barely even notice it's there? But I'm kind of no good at flying. That said... if you guys want to poke at it, or come up with something of your own design, I actually got the Danger Shop to behave for once and make accurate replicas of my jetpack to pick apart, so you can see how it works!"

He wasn't going to let people poke at the real thing, no. He kind of needed that one.

"Or you guys could do something else," Topher added, though he personally planned to be first in line to play with the jetpack. "Like you know in that movie where the kid and the grandpa tour the candy place and they drink something and then wind up floating everywhere? You could do that. There's chemicals for that."

That sounded super-safe. Really.

"Oh," he added. "And if you can figure out to make fake wings that look like they could be a person's, that would be even cooler."

Liara glanced up from her corner of the room, looking mildly panicked. "I haven't figured out biotic flight yet!" she called. "I will elaborate once I do!"

… Yes.

Lex was a fan of today's theme, yes he was.

Victor -- who had spent much of his morning zapping poor innocent trees in the preserve, just because he could -- was playing around with a jetpack. He suspected if he practiced enough he could get much better at magnetic levitation, which was kind of like flying, but it'd never be as fast as if he had a rocket strapped to his back.

Evan was spending this meeting doing some basic maintenance on his own jetpack, and, thankful that his powers had come back, he was making a point to just shift his hands into the shapes of the tools that he needed.

Unless they were far enough away to make a stretch for. Then he was doing that, instead.

Liara was going through... well, all of the biotic documentation Commander Alenko had shared with her.

And going through it again.

And again.

Not that GLaDOS would ever admit to being . . . a little touchy about the whole potato-battery incident from last week, and it wasn't as if potatoes had body language you could read (unless it was Mr. Potatohead, maybe), but her presence today took a distinctly non-starchy camera-based form.

Not sulking, shut up.
