Apathy Club, A Classroom, Friday After Classes

An Apathy Club.

Yes, this was definitely happening again. Jeremy was even awake! And that vague thought his narrative had made mention to last week was actually starting to form as words. ~~Unless there was no one there, in which case he said nothing at all.~~ "Hey... Do you guys think we should, like, do something at some point?"

Sometimes he forgot what the point of the club was.

Sparkle could do apathy like a pro. After all, it was a well-known fact that Sparkle Didn't Care.

But, well...

"Do something? Like... what?" He kind of looked thoughtful at the suggestion. After all, there was a fine line between not caring, and being bored out of one's wits. "Go drinking or something?"

That counted as Doing Something, if you were to ask Sparks.

"Maybe!"

Because that counted as Doing Something in Jeremy's book as well.

2Although I was thinking about stuff like... I don't know, like laser tag and stuff."

"Laser tag, huh?" So help Sparkle, he looked intrigued by that idea. "... Never played it."

But he was already planning ways to make it more interesting!

Which couldn't possibly end well.

Well, Jeremy had a history of going along with other people's bad ideas willingly, so. Things not ending well may have been an inevitable outcome here.

"Oh, it's totally easy!" enthused the boy who thoroughly sucked at it. "And fun! You'd like it. I mean, I do, at least."

"Well, it does involve shooting at people with lasers," Sparkle mused. "Kinda hard not to like that, unless you're nuts, right?"

Seemed like a fair assumption!

"Exactly." Because Jeremy was the type who thought that way, too. "Plus, it's less messy than paintball."

"Not a fan of messy, are we?" Sparkle now looked pretty thoroughly amused for a guy who was supposed to be all apathetic and stuff. "Aw, come on, man. Messy is awesome. You just put on some junk clothes and find a place you don't mind all splattered with paint. That's easy."

Sparkle had also never played paintball.

"... Junk clothes?"

Jeremy looked thoroughly, sincerely baffled by this concept. Had you seen his clothes, Sparkle? He clearly had too much money.

"What, like... last season's Hugo Boss?"

"Right, you're one of those." Sparkle sighed and gave his head a shake. This was, after all, the guy who had given out fancy grab bags here that he had left over from some party or something.

Sparkle had totally hawked his off and spent the money on smokes.

"You know, whatever you don't mind getting dirty. Sure, Hugo. Never play paintball without your hundred dollar cufflinks, right?"

"I –– I don't think I own a pair like that," Jeremy hazarded. Meaning that most, if not all, of his cufflinks were more expensive than that, though he luckily didn't state that so explicitly out loud. "I guess I could, like, buy clothes specifically for paintball."

That was met with Sparkle raising an eyebrow at him, yeah.

"Do you even know what kind of clothes are okay for paintball?"

He was curious!

"Yeee-es?" Not really. But he barely knew what clothes were okay for a lot of everyday happenings, so it really wasn't much of a surprise. "Like... Ones that aren't so... nice?"

He stopped trying and just waved a dismissive hand.

"That's what we have the internet for, bro. I can just ––" He mimed typing. "–– look it up."

Sparkle's eyebrow was going to stay up for another moment or two, and then he was going to just shrug and shake it off.

"Just get, like, some coveralls or something," he suggested. "Work clothes that can get covered in paint and they'll take most of the sting out of the paint pellets when they hit you. S'what makes sense to me, anyhow."

Again, he'd never played paintball.

Jeremy shrugged. "I work in my normal clothes," he said because sure, that was totally Sparkle's point. "But coveralls, man, sure. Guess I could rock those."

Never mind that the original plan had been laser tag, and this was supposedly just a tangent.

It was probably going to turn into drunken strip paintball by the time they actually played it, at this rate.

"Not sure the point is to look good," Sparkle mused, "but that said, I'm pretty sure I could wear 'em well, too."

It was all in the accessories! Probably!
