SCIENCE! Club, Monday After Classes
There was really nothing in the world quite like hopping out of a portal onto the causeway from some random state full of boring old people, making a beeline for the Danger Shop, and discovering that it was playing-with-atoms day. At least, that was Topher's experience. And it was a pretty delightful one.
"The element kits are out," Topher gushed as soon as he spotted, sure enough, a whole bunch of element kits on the table. "Why are the element kits out?"
"Because today we're going to be using Danger Shop technology to see what happens if you break matter down to its smallest component bits," Evan replied, smiling as he poked through his own. "And maybe even what happens if you break those smallest bits into something smaller. Which, um, is why we're in here, working with simulated elements. Because we don't want to blow up the entire island if one of us manages to successfully split the atom."
That would be bad.
Topher was so excited. "Okay, if anyone does, I will personally buy you pizza," he declared. "So. There's incentive."
"Um... if destroying atoms isn't your thing, though, you can also feel free to try to invent your own new element." Because suddenly Evan was seeing the error of his ways. "Again, it's all theoretical in here, but this stuff should work the same way in real life. And I hear if you discover a new element, you get to name it whatever you want."
"Do be careful," Liara warned them all. "Even in this Danger Shop, I am not entirely sure splitting, say, a molecule of Element Zero will be wise. And we have tried to make sure this simulation adheres to every law of physics."
She had only barely been kept from adding the laws of mass effect physics in there.
"So, grab a kit and feel free to make use of any of themoddable equipment," Evan chirped, "and see what you can do with matter!"
