Library, [2/13]

The Library's open, and this morning, there are chocolates for the aides. Nobody else, though, so shoo!

"It's a da...plan," he said.

"Yay!" Rory said, beaming.

"Um, is there anything library-related I can help you with?" she asked, remembering that her job was, in fact, not to flirt.

"I think I'm okay," Anakin said. "I'm just gonna go sit over there and work on my essays. So throw something at me if I fall asleep, okay?"

"Did you just say 'essays'?" Rory asked. "I thought you were working on ACJ? But, whatever." She waved a hand. "I will gladly throw things at you if you fall asleep. Or possibly just let you nap and keep you protected from the other aides, because I'm nice like that."

"Essay. Right. Just one." Anakin ran a hand through his hair. "Maybe I do need a nap."

"Maybe you do," Rory said, looking concerned. "Seriously, if you want to curl up in a corner here, I'll keep an eye on you so that no one goes and pretties you up, like we did to Lee."

Anakin hid a yawn behind his hand. "I think I will," he said, rubbing his eyes and heading for a not-terribly comfortable-looking chair. "Thanks."

"No problem," Rory said, going back to her notes, keeping a steady watch on Anakin.

Anakin buried his head in his arms and was asleep in a matter of minutes.

And so that none of the other aides would suspect anything - or, rather, so that Zero and Janet wouldn't suspect anything - Rory walked over at one point and set a small hat made of paper on Anakin's head.

And then resumed her watch from the desk.

Anakin woke up about an hour later and frowned.

"Jedi don't wear hats," he muttered.

Rory might have giggled from behind the desk. Would have been hard to tell, though, given that she was clearly engrossed in a book.

Anakin stomped over to the desk and dropped the hat onto Rory's head.

"Looks better on you," he said.

Rory looked innocent.

"Why, where did you get such an attractive hat?"

"Some gave it to me as a present," he replied. "I have no idea who. Do you think you could give it back to them?"

"Why would you want to return such a pretty gift?" Rory asked sadly.

"It is lovely," Anakin began, "but I really think it works better with your coloring."

He was a very, very bad liar.

"Uh huh," Rory said dubiously. "This is a very special hat, though. It has special powers, you see."

"Special powers?"

"Special protection powers," Rory said seriously. "Protection from library aides who would not understand why Rory would let a friend sleep in the library without tormenting him."

"Ohhhh," Anakin said. "Got it." He smiled. "Thank you. I don't, um, have to keep wearing it, do I?"

"No, but you can go back to napping if you want, and I won't stick anything on your head," Rory promised. "Janet and Zero'll be fine. Especially since Zero's not talking to me, I think."

He smiled. "I think I'm good. I'm going to head back to my room, do some of the work that Obi-Wan just sent me." He wrinkled up his nose. "Not that I want to memorize the planets in the Anoat System."

"I barely know the ones in this system," Rory said, smiling lopsidedly. "Have fun. And seriously? If you ever want to nap in here while I'm in, you can. And I promise you won't have to wear a hat...always."

"Well if I do have to wear a hat, I insist that it be the tiara that Lee had," Anakin said with a cocky smile.

"See you in Jung, okay?"
