The Library's open, and this morning, there are chocolates for the aides. Nobody else, though, so shoo!

"Cool, man. Thanks!" Blair set his plant, Hank on the counter and dug through his backpack for a notebook.

"Alright, Nadia said first dates make everyone nervous but it gets better after time. Does that just mean your first date ever or every first date with a different person?"

Parker cocked and eyebrow and said, "Both. You get proportionally less nervous with every date you go on, but you're always a little worried the first time you go out with a new person." She reached out, and petted one of Hank's fronds, watching Blair jot notes with bemusement.

[oops! Sorry, I forgot to mention that hank is still not growing. Basically it's a pot of dirt wearing a sweater right now]

[*handwave* it that she patted the sweater, then. Heh.]

Blair scribbled in his notebook and bounced a little. "Great, great. Alright, what sort of gifts should I give as dates progress? And what's this base thing that people keep talking about?"

Parker choked on her coffee.

When she had herself under control, she coughed and said, "Gifts are optional. Nice, but optional. Don't get jewelry unless it's a birthday, Christmas, or Valentine's Day, and you've been going out a while." She took a breath. "Otherwise, anyone with sense will just appreciate the gesture, based on what they know you can afford. Any guy who drives a Maserati better be getting *me* Prada boots."

She looked at him speculatively. "You want me to explain the bases to you, hmm? You really don't know what they are? This isn't a ploy?"

Blair listened carefully, still taking notes. "Okay, I didn't get Nadia jewelry for Valentines, but she still might like the gift."

He looked at her oddly. "If I knew I wouldn't ask you. I just know that people talk about them a lot in relation to dates."

Parker shook her head, and couldn't help the grin. "It's a metaphor for sexual progress. You relate how far along you are with someone to baseball. First base, kissing. Second base? Touching above the waist. Third base... well, you get the idea." Tongue in cheek, she added, "Do I have to explain a home run to you, or did your parents already give you that explanation?"

Blair started taking notes and then stopped as Parker continued talking. With a slight 'eep' he dropped his pen on the floor and blindly reached out to pick up Hank's pot. Mumbling and blushing a bright red, he turned and headed for the door at a olympic sprint pace.

"Bye, Sandburg!" Parker called after him, chuckling. God, that kid was funny.
