Wild Roving, Thursday [20/09]

"So we're packed," Ronan said, after the class finished filing into the danger shop. Today, there were several computers set up to one side, a set of shelves opposite with an array of travel guides. "We're ready to go -- but where are we going?"

Everyone's packed bags appeared in front of them, and resting in top was an envelope. "You can open those up," Ronan instructed them. Inside was a piece of paper with a country listed. "Your task for today is to find -- using whatever means at your disposal, but probably the internet -- to find three things out about your country: the capital city, one hostel where you can stay cheaply, and one thing you want to for entertainment in that city: an event, a museum, anything."

Ronan waved at the class, grinning. "Have at it," he said. "And if you have any question -- or any trouble figuring out where to start -- just let me know and I'll see what I can do."

[Wait for OCD is up!]

Sholeh opened her envelope and saw she'd gotten the landsc--country Malta.

Rather than going for the computers, Sholeh drifted over to the collection of travel guides. Books, she understood.

Hoooookay Luxembourg.

Sparkle had no idea what to do with Luxembourg. But sure, he'd figure... something out.

Ooh, Netherlands. Billy was pretty sure he could find a lot of information for there, and he may have looked a little too excited. Geek.

Yeul looked down at the name of her country (Cyprus) and then, after consideration of the books and the computers, settled herself down at one of the computers.

It was slow going, looking things up, because while she understood the general idea of how they worked, Yeul had never really used them before.

"I traveled to Malta," Sholeh said, getting into the 'let's pretend' aspect of the class. "I stayed in the YMCA hostel (http://www.hostels.com/hostels/valletta/ymca-valletta/65902) in the capital city of Valletta (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Valletta) for only $20.55 a night. While there's a lot to do in Malta, I really enjoyed the Megalithic Temples (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Megalithic_Temples_of_Malta), which are the oldest freestanding structures in the world, beating out the pyramids of Egypt."

Wikipedia and Google didn't fail Sparkle, at least.

"So I guess I got Luxembourg? The capital city is... Luxembourg, and the Luxembourg City Hostel has beds that start at like thirty bucks and fifty-seven cents Canadian a night."

Yes, he was looking this up in Canadian. He was researching this in a way that made sense to him, damn it, so he was going to use the currency he knew.

"They really aren't lacking for museums and junk to take in, since they've been named the Europe Capital of Culture like twice? But instead of taking in all the art museums and stuff they have, I'd probably settle for checking out the food, since they're stuck kind of between France and Belgium and Germany. They get the best of all three worlds, you know?"

Ugh, research. Sparkle really didn't want to look this stuff up. It wasn't like he was actually going on this trip? But he'd suffer through it anyhow.

It wasn't like it was hard to do with the power of Google at his fingertips, anyhow.
