Club Fair, Gym, Friday Afternoon

Jackson got to the gym early. He took his mission of establishing a sports team in Fandom pretty seriously, see. That involved making something of an effort, and showing up early to check out the competition (yes, he viewed the other clubs as competition, deal with it) was the least he could do.

He grabbed a copy of the club schedule for himself before he went to set up his table.

"It's like..." She hesitated, choosing her words. "For different, um, orientations? Like... sexual orientations. Minorities."

And yes, it was now occurring to her that these terms might not necessarily make sense to Liara.

Yeah, Liara's expression was a complete blank. "...Okay."

Karolina's lips twisted as she tied to decide where to start. Except she found she really wasn't sure.

"Which part is it that you don't get?"

"It has... something to do with sex?" Liara attempted. "I am sorry. I am not entirely sure what a sexual orientation is."

Karolina chewed on her lip. "Well, it's like when some people like... the opposite gender, and others ––" Don't start blushing, don't start blushing. "–– like their own...?"

Wow that was awkward.

"Oh," Liara said, frowning a bit. "I suppose that would be a concern for other species..."

"... It's not for yours?"

Well, that distracted Karolina from her potential blushing, at least.

"My species only has one sex," Liara said helpfully. "'Male' and 'female' are foreign concepts to us."

"Oh."

And now she was trying to figure out how that might work. Because asking would be embarrassing.

So was this random silence too, though, probably.

Thankfully, this was a conversation Liara had already had several times. "We reproduce in a way fundamentally different to you," she explained. "We use psychic imprints rather than biological material."

"Oh-kay," said Karolina. Not really grasping it but probably getting enough of an idea. Namely that it didn't work like humans or... Majesdanians either, probably, though she couldn't be entirely sure. "Probably a little too scientific for me to really get, but, okay."

"It is really not all that complicated," Liara started, then went through her explanation in her head and... yes, it was fairly scientific. "... but it is not important."

She glanced towards Pride again. "Does that mean you have a different sexual orientation?" she asked.

Politely.

Karolina... did kind of an internal panic flail. Which then materialized as stumbling over words.

"No, no, I'm just –– you know, Pride clubs usually take allies too. People who are supportive of... different people? So I'm not, I'm just... Yeah, ally."

Oh nice one, Kar. She was immediately not proud of that.

"Oh, I see." No, she didn't, but Liara chalked it up as another human culture thing she didn't understand. "I am sure they appreciate your support."

"Yeah," Karolina said, now feeling a little... embarrassed was probably a good for it. Also, like she'd just lied. Which she had, she just wasn't entirely comfortable admitting that yet.

And she still felt like flailing.

"So, um... I think I'm going to go now."

Liara nodded. "I look forward to hearing about the clubs you decide to join," she offered.

It felt like the right kind of way to say goodbye. Or at least polite.

"Yeah," Karolina replied, with a quick nod and an even briefer smile. "See you later."

And now she was fleeing. It was possible she wasn't going to end up signing up for anything at all.
