Club Fair, Gym, Friday Afternoon

Jackson got to the gym early. He took his mission of establishing a sports team in Fandom pretty seriously, see. That involved making something of an effort, and showing up early to check out the competition (yes, he viewed the other clubs as competition, deal with it) was the least he could do.

He grabbed a copy of the club schedule for himself before he went to set up his table.

Evan was here! Well. He was halfway here. He had two tables to divide his time between, so he was kind of running back and forth between this table and Junior Achievers, wondering how in the world he'd gotten so ambitious this semester.

... So, so ambitious. Aaaah.

After Evan had moved around for the fifth or sixth time, Topher did have a query. "Dude, why all the running? There's only like four other things to see."

"I know," Evan replied, fidgeting a little, "but I'm running that club, too."

He pointed over at the Junior Achievers table.

"I just don't want to miss anything important, you know? So... I kind of feel like I need to be all over right now."

"Oooh, the Billy one," Topher observed. "That's about powers and stuff. Awesome. I like powers and stuff."

NO EVAN. NO DO NOT PURSUE THIS CONVERSATION.

"Oh, yeah? Do you have any of your own?"

See him blithely ignore the narrative, asking Topher questions with a big happy smile on his face.

"Alas, no," Topher said sorrowfully. "Though one could argue that my above-average intelligence is a kind of superpower in its own right. So perhaps!"

No, Topher. That was wrong.

"You?"

"A few," Evan replied, contemplating the prospect of calling genius a superpower. It seemed to work for about half of the Avengers back home, it seemed. So why not?

"Shapeshifting and energy blasts and things like that. Nothing really super impressive, I don't think."

Ignore that energy blasts meant that Evan could level the room and leave it a smoking crater with very little effort at all, please.

"Fun," Topher decided. "We should try to use those. In the club. For... something."

"My powers...?"

Evan looked all sorts of confused, yes.

"Yeah, to, like, blast stuff," Topher said brightly. "Everyone likes blasting stuff."

"For... science?"

Evan was looking dubious, Topher. He blasted stuff when he needed to, but that didn't mean he necessarily enjoyed it.

"Duh." COME ON NOW, EVAN. WHY ELSE WOULD YOU BLAST THINGS? "To learn about... walls. I don't know."

"Walls?" THE DUBIOUSNESS WAS NOT GOING AWAY. "You really just want an excuse to see me blow something up, don't you?"

"Yes," Topher said immediately. "That's the plan."

Well, at least Topher was honest about it. Evan blinked at him a few more times, and then he shrugged his shoulders a little.

"We could... do some sort of project about structural integrity," he offered. "Design Fandom-proof buildings for the Danger Shop to put together, and then see if I can knock them down?"

"Dude, that'd be amazing," Topher said earnestly. "We could even make it a contest, like, let everyone try to knock them down. Some people could use powers, some of us could... try other things, whatever. Maybe I could make lava."

Oh dear.

"You know. Danger Shop lava."

"... Lava?" Evan was going to sit back and quietly watch the club spiral into madness before they'd even had the first meeting, wasn't he? "I... guess we could use lava. Assign different people to design different buildings to... withstand certain things? Like lava, and earthquakes, and... mutant power blasts."

Which kind of felt weird, following natural disasters like that.

"Exactly like that," Topher agreed. "Because come on, I'm sure it's rained lava here before. It'll help with preparedness!"

"I... guess that little island out there is volcanic," Evan allowed, still looking sort of dubious. "And it's... best to get that sort of thing out of the way in the Danger Shop, right? Safer that way?"

As opposed to real lava? Yes, Evan.

"Also more boring," Topher admitted. "But yes."

"Let's avoid killing everyone with lava for real in the name of the science club," Evan said, a little slowly, sounding... a little uncertain.

Maybe this was a dangerous sort of club to be involved in?
